Where to start? There are so many topics that could be discussed when talking about water, but for now the basics will do. Approximately 60 percent of the human body is water, and its intake is a major requirement (need) for our bodies—we can only last a few days to a week without it. Keeping our bodies hydrated with water serves so many purposes that the list is endless, but important points include flushing out waste and bacteria, feeding our body/organs, cleaning the skin, weight loss, energy and performance, headache prevention, joint pain, and overall mood. Mayo Clinic recommends that 1.5 liters or more (up to 3 liters) of water should be drunk each day throughout the day.
A big pain that comes with drinking water is the taste because it has none. This bothers many people because after awhile it gets boring and we get tired of drinking this flavorless liquid. About a year ago, I came into contact with one of those water bottles with a built-in infuser where you put small slices of different fruits or veggies into the infuser. It gives the water a yummy natural flavor that helps make the taste more exciting and bearable. My suggestion for those of you who hate water, invest in one of these water bottles with a built-in infuser. I have seen them everywhere from TJ Maxx to WalMart, and made from glass or plastic.
The best part of using the water bottle infuser is that you get to experiment and mess around with different fruit and veggie combinations in your water. Here are a few of my favorites and suggestions.
- Cucumber and mint
- Strawberry and blackberry
- Watermelon and mint
- Pineapple and orange
- Honeydew melon and cucumber
- Strawberry and basil leaves
- Raspberry and rosemary sprigs
- Pineapple and fresh ginger leaves
The most satisfying aspect of drinking infused water is that you get really healthy benefits and a satisfying feeling at the cost of zero calories and a super yummy taste! Have fun experimenting and keep drinking that water, I promise you’ll appreciate it.
