Simplifying is a necessity in life that everyone should or will go through at one point in there life. There will come a time, if it hasn't already happened, where the clutter is overwhelming and the urge to throw everything out (literally) arrives. And sometimes, that's not a bad thing.
It's important to be able to recognize when change is wanted wether it be remodeling a room or cleaning out an over growing closet. It's time to recognize what you want and not follow others wants. I think deep down we are all a little bit of a "hoarder" here or there with certain things. There comes a time though when those things are not being used and they're certainly not needed. They're taking up room where new things could be placed. This is the call to CLEAN OUT THE CLOSET!
Now those words might be terrifying to hear, but your body & mind will thank you later. Cleaning has this calming effect, letting go of the past, and a fresh new start. It's important to take the time to make changes here and there, just to feel something different.
I decided one day I was sick of the overgrowing closet that seem to ooze out clothes, and dust bunnies rolled around on the floor as I set a pair of shoes down. That's when I had this urge to toss is out. Toss everything I hadn't touched in the past 6 months. Boxed it up and off to Salvation Army it went and damn did that feel good. I was hoarding shirts that held memories, like my first kiss, or the time I broke my wrist. Shirts that I would never be caught dead wearing, and for what reason? It held some type of memory. Looking at those shirts brought back many nights with friends and ex-boyfriends, but why keep them when I'm moving forward with my life? Not to mention, they were most definitely out of style.
As humans, we have this love to keep almost every memory alive, even if it means holding onto a shirt, a concert ticket, or some big awkwardly shaped item that has been stored in the storage room in the basement, because we need that, right? We're afraid to let go because we don't want to forget the memories and times associated with those items.
Here's the thing- we don't need items sitting in the house, when we will always have the memories in our hearts. So next time you get that urge to clean out your closet, garage, or bathroom- do it. Challenge yourself and why not go simple?
I can guarantee, you'll feel a weight lifted off your shoulders.
