Being an adult and acting like an adult are two very different things, and it can seem difficult to tackle all at once. Here are a few small things you can do to make yourself feel like you’ve got your life together.
1. Wake up early
You don’t have to wake up at the crack of dawn every day, but getting up before 11 is a good way to get your body used to being up earlier. Make yourself a cup of coffee, scroll through twitter and relax—you’ve earned it.
2. Read a newspaper
Watch the news or look online. It’s important to know what’s going on in the world outside of whatever you see on "E! News." There are a ton of websites out there that have simplified versions of the worlds problems, broken down so us newbies can understand what the heck they’re talking about (Odyssey and Huffington Post are good places to start)!
3. Make a to-do list
Whether you complete it or not is up to you, but I always feel better when I have everything written down. Make a list of chores you need to get done, homework assignments or your nighttime skincare routine! Nothing feels more satisfying or productive than crossing off a task from your to-do list.
4. Save your moolah
Nothing says “I’m a grownup” like not having to ask your parents to lend you some cash. Squirrel away two or five dollars a week so you have a little extra emergency money. This is also the perfect excuse to craft a new mason jar or piggy bank.
5. Food Prep
Not that you need to start cooking four-course meals for yourself, but setting aside time to actually LEARN how to cook is a good skill to start improving now. I personally hate cooking, but I find if I make a bunch of chicken and veggies on Sunday, they’re super easy to re-heat throughout the week. I also no longer have an excuse not to eat healthier. This will be helpful when you’re in the real adult world and you’ll thoroughly impress your parents.
