Simple Ways to Look Like You Care More Than You Actually Do

If we're being honest, I have one of those faces that make people say Are you okay? You look sick. Were you crying? when I don't wear makeup, so I'm not someone who can just roll out of bed, throw my hair in a bun, and go about my day. In high school, I would get up hours earlier than necessary in order to pick out an outfit, do my makeup, and meticulously fry my hair with one heat tool or another. As high school progressed, this routine got shorter and shorter until I reached college, when my 8 a.m. class required that I whittle down my routine to the bare necessities in order to preserve precious sleep. Out of necessity, I have picked up a few tricks and discovered products along the way that help me look like I care about my appearance while requiring as little effort as possible.

1. Baby Powder

I frequently will pat some baby powder onto my roots before bed to absorb extra oil so that I can go an extra day before washing my hair, because over washing your hair can have a drying effect... and also I’m incredibly lazy. It works the same as dry shampoo, but I've found that with most dry shampoos I've used, they make your hair look better, but it still feels like a greasy mess.

You can also dab baby powder onto your lashes between coats of mascara for a lash-extending effect, just make sure to do this before your foundation so you can wipe away fallen baby powder without ruining your makeup. Unless, of course, you look like me, in which case your could literally just use baby powder as face powder.

2. E.l.f. Studio Baked Highlighter

Seriously, this stuff could replace half your makeup. I own this product in “Blushed Gems,” which I use instead of or on top of my normal blush, and “Moonlight Pearls,” which I use to highlight my face (nose, chin, forehead, brow bone, you know the drill). This highlighter in any shade can be used as an eyeshadow as well!

3. Coconut Oil

I could write an entire article on the many uses of coconut oil but thankfully, someone else already did. Personally, I apply coconut oil to my hair weekly as an overnight deep conditioner. After I wash it out in the morning, my hair is noticeably stronger and shinier! It is also an excellent makeup remover because it softens skin and strengthens lashes. The number one reason that I couldn’t live without coconut oil though is because I use it daily as a lotion because my skin is too sassy to tolerate scented products.

4. Tresemme Keratin Smooth Line

Try one, try them all, but seriously- try it. I live in Columbus, GA where the humidity is unbearable and would normally turn my hair into coarse, frizzy mess, so this line of hair products has been a life saver!

5. Lip Liner

I genuinely cringe every time I watch one of my friends apply red lipstick to their bare lips. Not only do I line my lips before applying colored lipstick, but I use the liner to fill them in as well. This creates an even base and prevents your color from bleeding, so your lipstick doesn’t stick to the dry patches on your lips or fade away. This does not mean that you need to go buy a $10 lip liner to match each shade of lipstick that you have. A few cheap, generic shades (red, pink, nude, etc) will do just fine.

6. Brow Powder (and a quality angle brush)

As I have previously tweeted, “I never would have guess what an important part of my life my eyebrows would become.” Once I learned to achieve a semi-quality brow using an angle brush and powder (occasionally I’ll even use regular eyeshadow in a shade similar to my hair), I never looked back. My hair fluctuates between different shades of red other than the shade that mine is naturally, so it also helps your hair color look more natural when it matches your brows. This is also far more convenient than dyeing your brows to match each time you dye your hair.

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
