As you get older, life will only become more hectic.

There will be more deadlines, challenges, and worries. You might become responsible for another person or increase your duties at work or school. You'll have a few bad days. It's important to have a way to relieve stress and stay grounded when things get tough. A way to keep it simple.

No matter how old you are or what stage of life you're in, here are eight ways to simplify your life and minimize your stress when your day isn't going the way you want it to.

Drink a cup of coffee.

Every morning, drink a cup of coffee (or tea, or water, whatever you like best) and do only that. Put down your phone, minimize the distractions and just take that time to think about what you need to accomplish at some point during the day. This quiet time will help organize your thoughts and get you ready for the day.

Go to a bookstore. Don't leave empty-handed.

Bookstores are some of the most relaxing spaces. It's quiet and everyone seems to be in their own world. Choose a book that interests you or something that is new to you, and take it home. There are plenty of used bookstores that sell books for cheap. Or, if you don't want to buy it, sit in the store and read it for a while.

Walk barefoot.

Or just take a walk and get outside. Sometimes it's nice to get out of your shoes and socks and walk through the grass (or sand, if you're near a beach). Even if you can't get outside, make an effort to make yourself more comfortable where you are.

Paint, color, or draw.

Do something creative. Art activates parts of your brain that you may not use on a daily basis and forces you to focus on something other than yourself. Even if you aren't much of an artist, just doodling or coloring a picture can help de-stress you.

Take a trip.

You don't have to go anywhere far, and you don't have to go for long, but the act of driving somewhere and getting a change of scenery can be beneficial.

Look at old pictures.

Looking back on all the things you've done and thinking about the people you did them with can elevate your mood. Just thinking of a happy, simple memory can bring back so many positive emotions.

Talk to old friends.

Remember to reach out to the people that have always been there for you. They can be a source of comfort for when you need a pick-me-up and are always a great person to chat and catch up with.

Listen to your favorite song.

Nothing will help you remember who you are like your favorite song. You probably have so many memories associated with that song as well as a personal connection with it. Chances are, it'll brighten your day whenever you hear it.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
