9 Reasons Why College Students Are Basically Just Tall Kids

We're serious adults doing serious life tasks. But are we really?

Sure, we're in college. We've pretty much worked our whole lives to get to this point. We're working to get our degrees and making decisions that will impact the rest of our lives. We act like serious adults doing very serious tasks. But let's be honest: we're not adults; we're pretty much just tall kids. Here are nine reasons why college students are basically just tall kids:

1. We take a lot of naps.

We take so many naps that they're basically scheduled into our weeks. Can you blame us? With schedules as crazy and busy as ours, sometimes we just need to recharge.

2. We're into High School Musical and Hannah Montana.

The odds are good that you can talk your friend into watching either for a quiet night in. And if you turn on the music, all of the people in the area will probably break into song and jam with you. Cue the dance party.

3. We want to stay up later than is really good for us.

Going out during the week is pretty much the same thing as wanting to stay up past your bedtime, both times knowing that you have class in the morning and the results probably won't be good.

4. We flock to the movie theater to see the new Disney movies.

You know what I'm talking about because you've probably seen every new Disney movie in theaters. There was a huge buzz from twenty-somethings about Finding Dory and the others, and they didn't disappoint. Now, who's ready for the Incredibles 2?

5. We have no money.

Kids are broke and depend on their parents' money and allowances for anything they want to do or buy. College kids are constantly broke and, well, just sort of constantly suffering.

6. We ask our parents for help with basic tasks.

We probably know how to do more things than we knew how to do as kids, but the number of calls we make to our parents suggest otherwise.

7. We gossip.

It may not be noble, but we all do it. Just like when we were kids and everything was new, there's also so much to talk about during this part of life.

8. We cry a lot.

If you say that college doesn't make you cry every once in a while, then you might not be telling the truth. It happens.

9. We're all just basically going through life looking for our next bowl of mac and cheese.

Aren't we?

College is a weird transition period when we're done being kids but aren't quite fully adults yet. Our lives are stressful and busy, and we can't live by all work and no play. Because of this, we don't always take ourselves too seriously. Who can blame us for sometimes acting like we're just tall kids? Embrace your goofy side.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way.
