Silence Is Not Uncomfortable — You Are

Silence is nothing to fear.

"Silence is a true friend who never betrays."

The world is loud. Malls are loud. Restaurants are loud. People are loud. In the car, we listen to music. At home, we turn on the tv. In any sort of "uncomfortable silence", there is for some reason a feeling of needing to fill that silence. Why? Because we are afraid. Silence holds quite a power, but we must not let that turn us away from it.

Silence is not something that should be feared. The honest truth is that silence is not uncomfortable. You are the one that is uncomfortable. You should not feel awkward sitting in occasional silence with family or friends.

Don't abuse your words. Don't fill silences with useless things because of your own discomfort. Learn the difference between creating meaningful conversations and just creating noise. Stop fearing the silence and being left with your thoughts. Thinking is a good thing. As a society, we most certainly need to think more.

"Silence says more than you think."

Appreciate the presence of others. Quality time does not necessarily mean talking for 2 hours straight. Sometimes quality time is just knowing the other person is right there, even if you aren't conversating right at that moment.

So be quiet, and learn to appreciate the power of silence. Make time for it. Don't fear it.

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.

What's up Asshat,

I've composed a list of things that I wish upon you, and they're harsh and cruel. These things are things that I wouldn't wish upon my worst of enemies, not even that Starbuck's barista who always screws up my order, not even him. You fall into a whole other category of hate. You surpass Starbucks barista. Congratulations, I'm actually a pretty nice person, making you worthy of every single bit of torture I wish upon you. What are these things I wish upon you you might ask?
