Signs You're Part Of A Cat Family

Let's talk about everyone's favorite member of the family.

We all know one, heck, you might be in one. Let’s talk about the families that treat their cats just like another child in the household. Some families are more partial to dogs, and that’s okay —they’re dog people. However, my family is well aware that we identify as a Cat Family: I’ve never lived in a home (until coming to college) without at least one cat residing alongside me. Once my brother graduates high school this year and moves into a dorm room, the cats will officially outnumber the humans in my parents’ house. Scary or beautiful? You be the judge. That being said, I know we aren’t the only family who loves their cats more than most things, so let’s go over a few signs that you are part of a Cat Family!

1. You can never wear dark clothes without sporting a few furballs.

Your family could probably equate the amount you spend on lint rollers to your entire college fund.

2. Changing the cat litter has always been a staple chore in your home.

It's basically a punishment.

3. A few of your friends can never sleepover because they’re allergic to your house.

I've seen people try and tough through it, but if you're allergic, then you're allergic. A tragedy, really.

4. Your Mom has probably tried to dress your cat up in a tiny outfit at some point.

I know that we have a little elf costume floating around the house for the winter months. But they look so cute in sweaters!

5. You’ve looked up what a cat’s facial expressions actually mean.

Sometimes I try to communicate with my cats in their own language. It hasn't worked so far, but stay tuned.

6. Your furniture was doomed from the very beginning.

You know you're home when you can feel the scratches on the leather couch, where your cat has left it's mark, both figuratively and literally.

7. They may or may not be your desktop background.

Nothing beats opening up your laptop to find your cute kitty looking back at you.

8. And your lock screen photo.

Well we can't let all of those cute pictures you've taken go to waste!

9. You swear that your cat has a favorite family member.

"Pearl, if you leave this bed to sleep with Joe you are officially disowned." —something I have definitely said to one of my cats before

10. Whenever you FaceTime your parents they let you talk to your cat.

Let's be honest, it's basically the only reason you called.

11. Sometimes it feels like the cat is fed more than you are.

My parents are always asking each other if either of them has fed the cats, and yet nobody bothers to ask if I have eaten anything.

12. Cat hair. In eyes. All. The. Time.

Ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow I think I got it out ... never mind. Ow ow ow ow.

13. Your family has invested in a few of these over the years.

14. And these are part of the bi-weekly grocery list.

15. Holiday cards just aren’t the same without them.

16. You live for the times when your cat actually wants to snuggle.

Netflix and chill? More like Netflix and meow.

17. You love them like another family member.

And you wouldn't have it any other way.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
