This isn't the 1950's and people don't "go steady" anymore. With modern lingo and all these new confusing terms, it's becoming harder and harder to gage where you're relationship is heading. However, if you and your significant other are experiencing any of these common warning signs, you may want to consult them right away because you may be "committed."
1. You consider buying a tandem bicycle.
Nothing says commitment like buying a bicycle that you can only ride with another person. When you break up, you can’t split the bike in half and go on your way, you're stuck pedaling through life with each other.
2. You didn’t want those last few fries anyway.
It doesn’t matter what you order, your plate is a mini buffet for your significant other. Sharing is caring.
3. "What’s mine is yours, and what’s yours is yours."
No such thing as “his” and “hers.” This applies to closets, bathrooms and especially to the sides of the bed. There’s throw pillows on the bed, you eat Kale for dinner and his favorite sports team sweatshirt smells like Justin Bieber’s perfume. Love is fun, isn’t it?
4. Your dog and family likes him/her more than you.
You thought blood meant something. Traitors.
5. “My list” is now “Our list.”
Netflix may not be smart enough to know you’re in a committed relationship but you are. When looking for a Friday night flick, the options are Gladiator, Fixer Upper, and How to Lose a Guy in 10 days. In addition, your favorite show is now sacred couples bonding time. You wouldn’t dare watch an episode without your significant other. Doing so is risking WWIII.
6. All bodily functions are acceptable.
Somehow you have become so comfortable with each other that nothing is off limits. No-shave November now last through February, you pee with the door open, and burping at the dinner table is now a competition.
7. You have some sort of dependent.
Whether this be the build-a-bear you made at the mall, a baby goat or a puppy, you now have equal “parental” rights that turns a break up into a custody battle.
There is nothing wrong with becoming committed. In fact, you're just getting to the good stuff. Enjoy the lack of personal space, love and tandem bicycles are worth it.
