Whether you lived here your entire life or your transferred here later on, we all know that Montgomery is a special place. We all grew up together and whenever we go home, there's a sort of nostalgic feeling. You see old classmates at local hangouts, say hi, and might even catch up with each other. What we all know at the end of the day is that there's no place like home.
1. The tree lighting in Princeton
With the amount of time we all spent in Princeton, you'd think we lived there, whether it's going to the tree lighting around Christmas time or going to Hoagie Haven.
2. Actually telling people you're from Princeton because its easier.
Because sometimes even people who live in New Jersey don't know about Montgomery. You tell them you're from Princeton, which sometimes people know.
3. Hating but also loving Montgomery high school.
Sometimes it was stressful with all the work that was piling onto us during the school day, but we were able to see our friends every day. (Something that doesn't happen after we all took off for college.)
4. Knowing there is not a lot to do here.
If you didn't have plans with your friends on the weekends, you were basically forced to find something fun to do.
5. Student section.
Hanging out with your fellow classmates and showing your school pride had never been more fun.
6. Going to the mall for fun.
If you didn't know what to do, the best thing to do was go to the mall. You might not have planned on buying anything, but even walking around the store was better than nothing.
7. You can't connect with North or South Jersey.
You can't connect with North or South Jersey because you're from Central Jersey, even if some people don't think it exists.
8. This movie theater was the place to hang...
9. ...not this movie theater.
Did anyone ever go here?
10. Bagel Barn is basically your high school reunion
Unless you're from the area, you don't know how great these bagels are. When you were able to drive your car after you got your license, you know the first thing you did was drive here to get your breakfast on delayed schedules. Even over the summer and on breaks, it's hard to go here and not see a fellow classmate.
11. Learning to drive involved learning how to take the Somerville Circle.
Also know as the "circle of death."
12. After every big event you went to Friendly's.
It needed some serious interior work and it was almost always crowded any day of the week, but the ice cream was great.
13. The "Montgomery Bubble."
This was something that we always heard about when we were growing up. We weren't really exposed to outside elements that often, which meant when we went off to college we had to discover a lot of things for ourselves. It was both a blessing and a curse.
14. Senior Assassin
The one thing you looked forward to your senior year in high school was this game. It might have gotten out of hand once in awhile (or all the time), but the punny team names and getting to hit your fellow classmates was definitely a way to beat some of the stress.
No matter how many years pass, you still kind of wish things were back to being in high school. You'll always look back at old photos on Facebook or on your phone and smile at old memories. Whether that's from the old football games, study hall, or just messing around with your friends during class. Seeing your classmates everyday was something that you just became accustomed to. You'll always love Montgomery for being your home as you grew up.
