Signs You're Dating Your Roommate

Because who else would you date.

Signs You're Dating Your Roommate

Valentine's Day is coming up and for those of you who are single, it might be because you're dating your roommate without even realizing it. Now you may just classify them as your roommate, but if you're close with them they could potentially be your new bae. They're everything a significant other could be. You live with them, you spend all your time with them, you compliment each other, and they're always there for you. Even though they are just your friend, they still act like your significant other.

Your roommate is one of the only constants in your life. You probably don't realize how much you need them and what they actually mean to you. I'm constantly with my roommate and people that don't know us would probably assume we are dating. That's just the way we are. So if you're like us and are "dating" your roommate these are things you'll completely understand.

No awkwardness

It might have been awkward when you first started living together, but you're probably past that now. You've skipped the awkward first date and getting to know each other phase that usually occurs in the dating world. You live with each other. They know that you talk in your sleep and you know they love their screamo music. Nothing is awkward between you two anymore.

You're crazy together

You always need someone to be crazy with. Late nights studying or weekend shenanigans means you're both going to go mental. All you need in life is for someone to be crazy with and accept your crazy. People always want their boyfriends or girlfriends to accept their crazy, roommates are perfect for that.

You cuddle with them

Sometimes you just need human contact, so you cuddle up with your roommate. There are no expectations or consequences, it's just cuddling. You could even crawl into bed with them. I'm assuming other people do that, but it just might be my roommate and me.

No boundaries

You live together, weird stuff is bound to happen. You might be at the point where you still change in the bathroom or you might just change right in front of your roommate. Maybe you've even seen your roommate naked. Accidents happen. It could reach the point that you can touch each other in otherwise inappropriate ways and it's completely normal. There are no boundaries between some roommates.

You get jealous

Sometimes you forget your roommate has other friends that they spend time with. You want to monopolize your roommate's time, but you get jealous when they spend time with other people. You can't have them all the time. It's just like when a significant other is with another person, you get irrationally jealous. It's basically the same thing.

You act like a married couple

You finish each other's sentences. You know what the other is thinking. It's like you've known each other for years when you might have only known each other for a few months. You fight like a married couple, screaming and insulting each other. But the fight ends and eventually, you go back to loving each other again.

They truly understand you

Because you spend so much time together they understand your habits and nonsense English. They know the things you like and what you don't like. When you're having a bad day they know exactly how to cheer you up. They know exactly what you need when it comes to outfit choices. They probably know you better than you know yourself.

You become a mom

You're away from your family and you need someone to look after you. If you didn't know, it ends up being your roommate. When you're out late, they'll call to make sure you're okay and on your way home. You make sure they're eating enough and getting enough sleep. You only worry that much about someone when you truly care about them.

They're always there for you

When you share a room, you kind of have to make sure your roommate is okay. So when you're having a bad day, they're there for you. They'll give you ice cream and chocolate to make you feel better. They're always there to hold you when you cry or to offer advice for your problems. Sometimes they're all you need in a situation.

Unconditional love

Even through the fighting, insults, and craziness, they're always there. They put up with your mood swings and crazy antics. Despite everything, they love you unconditionally and that's all that matters.

So if you're single this Valentine's Day, go out with your roommate. They're the next best thing to an actual boyfriend or girlfriend. You can make your relationship stronger in the process and they'll know how much you actually appreciate them.

Shout-out to my roommate for inspiring this.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.
