There are so many other things I could say, but then this article would never end. Through living with other people, you learn their mannerisms and unique qualities. Soon enough, you find yourself doing or saying the same things.
Before I go, I wanted to give a shoutout to my roommates for making life a little more fun.
1. You start to say the same things.
I have three other roommates and we all have such different personalities, but it is such a good dynamic. I am guilty of saying "Here's the thing" ALL the time. I have no clue where I got it from, but it has become an everyday staple in my vocabulary. I use it before starting a story or explaining an event or issue in my life.
I now hear all my roommates using this phrase every day and they always trace it back to me. You're welcome.
We all also say the same things at the same time. It is one of those weird moments where you look at each other wondering how that just happened, but it did, and you both realize you're the same person.
Your roommates are the last ones to judge you because they've seen you at your best and your worst; like when you walk into Sam's room crying after a terrible day — guilty as charged.
2. You start to cook the same meals.
My roommates and I can attest to this one. The three foods that you will always see in our apartment are sweet potatoes, tacos, and cookies. One time, I was baking a sweet potato and my roommate, Alex, came into the kitchen to also bake a sweet potato. Coincidence? I think not. Another time, Alex made shrimp tacos and our other roommate, Sam, was so impressed with them that she now makes shrimp tacos regularly: same meal, same ingredients, same everything.
3. You are becoming a part of your roommate's family.Â
You know everything that is going on with your roommate's family. You may have never met Crazy Uncle Pat, but you know that he went on a bad Tinder date last night and ended up going home alone. You know that your roommate's brother got hit in the forehead with a Pop-Tart at school yesterday, and started bleeding because of it. I promise this is a true story — ask my other roommate, Maddy.
When they are on the phone with their family, you are also on the phone with their family.
