If you're like me, you have probably assumed everyone in your grade has been counting down the days until graduation since freshmen year. Believe it or not, people are dreading having to leave high school and others are as eager as possible to move into their college dorm.
Personally, I'm looking forward to a new adventure and think college is the perfect way to meet people who potentially have similar interests in a new setting. Here are some of the signs you may already have senioritis or are completely opposed and definitely not ready to leave high school. This disease is completely contagious, so be careful.
1. You have fallen asleep more than once in class and don't mind who sees.
We all have those days when we physically can't stay awake for a certain amount of time, but there are others who have this same problem everyday and can't keep their eyes open for multiple periods.
2. Doing homework the period before or the period it is due.
"I'll do it later" and "It will only take me 5 minutes" are some things most people will say when they're procrastinating and refuse to do their homework. Seniors will recognize that they probably should start their homework, but most are too bothered to actually care.
3. Staring at the clock at least a dozen times within a period.
It's completely normal to wonder what the time is. However, when you find yourself staring down the clock for a consecutive amount of time, you might have a problem. One minute turning into two minutes can only be entertaining for so long.
4. Daydreaming about college during class.
Ever wonder about what it's going to be like to live on campus and be in a completely new place with new people? That's something most seniors find themselves doing during math or science class while their teacher teaches a lesson.
5. You lost your planner or could care less where it is.
Underclassmen tend to write down every assignment and due date in order to never forget when they'll have to turn in a project or essay. Senioritis causes seniors to think they'll remember everything that is due for a whole year without writing a single thing down. I personally can't remember the last time I saw my planner.
6. You constantly remind yourself when the next break is.
Whether you count down the minutes until lunch or spring break, it's practically impossible to not motivate yourself to stay awake by thinking this way. "At least spring break is in three months"
7. Excessively checking your mailbox or email for responses from colleges.
Choosing what college you will attend for the next four years is extremely difficult and not something you can rush. However, it is one step closer to finally attending a new school and therefore excites seniors to check over and over again.
8. Already buying things for your college dorm.
If you have began purchasing decor for your college dorm, you have a serious case of senioritis that seems like it will only get worse. At least you'll be prepared for move in day!
If you have three or more of these signs, you probably have senioritis. Senior year is extremely busy and stressful, so it's almost impossible to not relate to any of these examples. Don't worry, all seniors are dealing with the same thing. Stress less and enjoy your final year of high school!
