15 Signs You Go To Miami University
Her Campus

Miami University, located in Oxford, Ohio, is one of the original eight public ivy league schools. With its beautiful red brick buildings, charming town and many traditions, there's so much that makes Miami a special place. If you're a student or a graduate of Miami, here are 15 things that you are sure to know.

1. You avoid the seal at all costs.

The superstition that stepping on the seal leads to you failing your next exam may seem like a myth, but you're certainly not taking any chances.

2. You point out the second most photographed spot in Ohio to everyone who visits you.

Next to the Ohio State football stadium, our beloved MacCracken Hall is the most photographed place in Ohio. This fun fact was drilled into your heads on campus tours so many times that you can't help but share it with everyone else.

3. If you lose your North Face parka you're screwed.

That would be because practically every girl at Miami owns the same black North Face coat. The same thing goes for Bean Boots, but those are a little harder to lose.

4. The Brotherhood is basically royalty.

Some schools revolve around their football team, but at Miami, we save the silly cheers, our jersey collections and our weekend nights for our hockey boys.

5. You've sported your fair share of "Not Yet" stamps.

Is Brick mocking us?

6. You know the fast track to becoming a Miami Merger.

That would be kissing your SO under the Upham Arch at midnight.

7. It seems like everyone you meet is from one of the "5 C's."

Cincinnati, Columbus, Cleveland, Chicago and China.

8. Your football team is the only team in NCAA history to go from 0-6 to 6-6 in one season.

It earned us a spot in the 2016 St. Petersburg Bowl and is almost as much of a miracle as the Chicago Cubs winning the 2016 World Series.

9. You constantly have to explain to people that you go to school in Ohio, not Florida.

Miami was a university when Florida still belonged to Spain.

10. You get to witness some of the most beautiful sunsets.

Seriously, does it get much better than that?

11. Broomball is a sport, and a popular one at that.

Even former President Hodge could be spotted out on the ice with his broomball team.

12. Bagels aren't just breakfast food.

Who knew bagels could be made in so many different ways?

13. You love to tell people that a US President, a Super Bowl quarterback AND the Speaker of the House went to Miami.

That would be Benjamin Harrison, Ben Roethlisberger and, of course, Paul Ryan. Other famous alumni include astronaut Alan Shepard, actress Tina Louise (Ginger on Gilligan's Island) and numerous famous football coaches.

14. Green Beer Day is more widely publicized than any other event.

It even has its own apparel line.

15. You have "the most beautiful campus there ever was."

That's a quote from the Robert Frost, and he couldn't have said it better.

Sure, Miami has its quirks, but if you're a Miami student you know you wouldn't want to have ended up anywhere else. Love and Honor, Redhawks.

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

We've all had a crush before. Whether it leads to something or nothing, the process has all been the same. The awkward feelings, the stalking, and the stress of trying to keep this huge secret. The feeling of becoming a total spazz is something that cannot be avoided, and the most spazzy family that can relate to this feeling is the Belcher's.

At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
