When I was a kid I would find myself constantly pondering adulthood. Yes, I was the child who was three going on thirty just like the teen, Jenna, from the 2004 movie "Thirteen going on Thirty." I wanted to be "Thirty and flirty and thriving." I would find myself pretending to have everything that a three year old could imagine comprised adulthood. That included things such as; the all important power suit, which certainly did not fit my chubby three-year old body, a cell phone fashioned from my hot pink Nintendo DS, a brief case from my mother's walk-in closet. Then, there was the most important rite of passage: drinking Coffee. Now that I am freshly nineteen and officially an adult everywhere (including Nebraska) I have learned that there are many signs that I have finally started adulting. Here are some signs that you may be adulting too!
1. Drinking a Pot of Coffee, Daily
When I was a child, I definitely got this part of adulting right, although at that time my coffee was substituted for chocolate milk because it was as close to the color I could get. Okay, MAYBE, it isn't a full pot daily but it is certainly quite a bit. My coffee habits will stay secret and you can keep yours a secret too!
2. Watching Cartoons or too much Netflix
Whether it is binge watching OITNB or HIMYM or the timeless Spongebob, our stress level is significantly higher from the world we have developed the unhealthy habit of lowering it through TV.
3. Nap Time is Prime Time
Especially if you are in college, sometimes the twenty minutes in between classes is exactly what you need. Maybe it is because you spent all night working hard on homework, studying or for the less-responsible adult, Netflix binging, but you sometimes need just a small nap.
4. Dealing with Insurance Companies
I have found that dealing with Insurance is one of the biggest fights, but I do it because it is responsible...
5. Getting an Official Job
This past week I got my first "big girl" job with benefits, a raise, a desk... the whole nine yards.
6. Being Sleep Deprived
I have found that one thing I can't do is say "NO", I take on as much responsibility as I can, I am sure you do the same thing
7. Learning your Passions
Becoming an adult is all about learning the things you are passionate about so you know what to keep in your life.
