Being a retired competitive dancer is extremely bitter-sweet. As the daughter of a former studio owner, my life revolved around dance. After being a dancer for 10+ years, I still find myself falling back into my "dancer tendencies". If you're anything like me, you'll relate to these signs.
1. The word "attitude" has a different meaning to you.Â
2. You forget that it's not appropriate to crack your hips, toes, ankles, or knees in class.
3. "OMG, I used to have a competition dance to this song" is your reaction when certain songs come on at a party.
4. You're a pro at putting on fake eyelashes.
5. Bad hair day? Put it in a ballet bun.
6. You choreograph combinations in your head while showering, walking to class, driving, doing homework, anywhere!
7. You sometimes just feel the urge to bust out a triple pirouette in your kitchen.
8. You count literally everything.
9. When you're bored, you listen to your old judges' critiques.
10. You subconsciously find yourself practicing pliés and tendus in line at the store.
11. You act as a judge while watching "World Of Dance."
12. Pedicures? You never got them as a child and you still don't waste your money.
13. Your closet is filled with garment bags of old dance costumes.
14. You're a pro at changing in small areas or in the backseat of the car.
15. You stand in fifth position when presenting a project.
16. You still keep up with the dance trends.Â
17. You follow countless dancers and companies on social media.
18. You can spend hours watching dances on YouTube.Â
19. Grocery store aisles are the best places to practice your leaps.
20. You're still friends with your competition team. Shoutout to my LDS girls!
21. As a retired dancer, you miss it every day.Â
