8 Signs You Are A Member Of Kappa Kappa Gamma

Being in a sorority is great, however, being in Kappa Kappa Gamma is the best. Here are some tell tale signs that you are a Kappa.

1. Every time you see an owl, key, or fleur de lis piece of jewelry, you debate buying it.

Because, let’s be honest here; our logos make for great jewelry. Any blue gem can be included in this as well, since our colors are blue and blue. Luckily for us, these gems and logos are extremely popular and easy to find, so we end up with a great selection of jewelry to purchase.

2. You think the best color that goes with blue is also blue.

“Blue is our color and blue is our other color” is literally our lifestyle. We think our jerseys look cuter this way, and our favorite match for dark blue is light blue. It is what it is.

3. You are a bit disappointed that you don’t get a Kate Spade discount.

Come on now, we all know she was a Kappa. Heck, she was even the president of her sorority. Theta used to get a discount from Tory Burch, so where is our love from Kate Spade? At least she makes cute clothes and accessories, though.

4. Every TV show chooses the “Kappas” as their sorority, which we get a kick out of.

Kappa Nu in the new "Neighbors 2" movie? Kappas, of course. What was Rachel in "Friends?" She called herself and her friends Kappas. Also, one cannot forget "Scream Queens," as Kappa Kappa Tau was literally a line off from looking like Kappa Kappa Gamma in front of their house. That's not mentioning that Kappa Kappa Tau was called Kappa as well. What was the ‘hot sorority’ in "The Middle" this past season when Sue rushed? Kappa. We find it funny, and it never gets old to us. We just don’t like it when people think that’s actually what Kappa is like.

5. We are proud of the fact that we have our own rap.

Baylor University was nice enough to make a rap that every new Kappa Kappa Gamma member hears on bid day. It’s a fun rap, and it is now universally known by every Kappa, regardless of college, and to be honest, we love it.

6. You are probably already planning when to sing “Oh, Pat” at your wedding.

It’s a famous song that Kappas are allowed to sing at their weddings and formals. Therefore, we want it at our wedding and any other event we can and do our best to plan for that. It’s probably on our wedding Pinterest board.

7. You’re still confused on which hand signal is real.

Does the hand pointing down have one finger, or two, like the hand on top? This confuses me, and I don’t truly know which is appropriate.

8. You wouldn’t want to be in any other sorority.

You love Kappa Kappa Gamma and would not want to pledge anywhere else. You know the values, philanthropies and sisterhood of Kappa Kappa Gamma, and wouldn’t trade them for the world.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
