Have you dreamed of cosplaying as a hobbit? Or sailing on the wings of giant eagles? Then you may be a L.O.T.R fan. Lord of the Rings trilogy by J.R.R Tolkien has brought joy to the hearts of many, through the fantastic world of Middle Earth. And for those of us who have fallen for his story, we will forever have a bit of us within it. If you relate to any of these situations, you may be forever a L.O.T.R. fan...
If you reenacted a scene with a pretend sword, or bow... or axe.
You made your sibling pose as the vile orc, as you, the noble Aragorn
slashes them with your mighty sword (a cardboard tube). To anyone else,
you're being crazy, but to you, you're the ultimate hero. Just don't
forget that awesome background music.
You name your pets after the characters.
Oh, Frodo the turtle, you've brought us so much joy. Almost as much as Pippin the guinea pig or Bilbo the bunny. Pets must have names, so why not name them after your heroic role models?
If you own your own copies of the trilogy.
There's
no way you'd turn down a chance to reread the books. You may even have
'The Hobbit' and 'The Silmerillion' tucked somewhere in your bookshelf.
If you're really dedicated, you have some of the pages bent over, or
bookmarks at your favorite spots.
You insert movie quotes into everyday scenarios.
If someone turns a light on, you proclaim "the beacons are lit." If you crowd a busy hallway, you shout "you shall not pass." If someone questions your snacking after breakfast, well, you know the drill: "what about second breakfast?"
You own a bit of L.O.T.R. merchandise.
Whether
a poster, a shirt or a coffee mug, you must show the human realm how
much you love Lord of the Rings. And, with that map of the Shire
blanket, you'll always be reminded of those grassy hills and calming
music.
You can name all the dwarfs from 'The Hobbit'.
But in case you forgot...
Balin, Dwalin, Kili, Fili, Dori, Oin, Gloin, Ori, Nori, Bifur, Bofur, Bombur and the respectable Thorin Oakenshield.
And lastly, you are certainly a L.O.T.R. fan if you cheered as the dark lord was vanquished, and peace again restored through the crowning of the king of Gondor. Indeed, after many read pages or many hours watched, you have finally come to the end, and have been rewarded for it. You were by Frodo and Sam's side as they returned the ring. You battled orcs alongside the riders of Rohan. You stood by Gandalf, in front of the flamed Balrog.
You completed your quest, but the stories and characters remain intact. And they should. The Lord of the Rings is an awesome story. Good for you for being a fan.
