One year ago, I met this boy in my 8 a.m. Science Goes Global class. He was wearing these crazy pajama pants and always brought a pop tart and coke to class without failed. Time passed and I began to think about this boy. Finally, I decided to talk to him and invite him to my sorority event that week. Long story short, we have been dating for a year.
May 28, 2015 he finally decided to ask me out and of course I said yes. One year later Evan surprised me with an anniversary surprise. He got the idea after our trip to Chicago, where we went to the She'd Aquarium. This is where I found my love for an animal, the otter. I freaked out and thought they were so adorable. Then begged Evan for an otter as a pet (of course he said no).
Evan surprised me with a trip to the Dickerson Park Zoo. This was no ordinary trip to the zoo, he surprised me with a trip to the otter exhibit, and I got to feed them! He planned out a whole date for my love for otters. We went to the exhibit to meet a guide who gave us each minnows to throw in the tank. After throwing a few over the glass, I accidentally didn't give the fish enough power and it fell right in an eight-year-olds hair. Thankfully she didn't realize it was a dead fish.
After feeding the otters we walked around the zoo for a bit then I wanted to leave because I was sweating and I wanted to look cute. Sweaty hair is not cute when you're still trying to impress your boyfriend. So after the zoo, we went back to get ready for dinner. Evan took me to Flame, which is a very elegant and classy establishment. Of course, I wanted a cute photo to document the moment, "because pics or it didn't happen." What I did not realize was that the people inside could see us and were making fun of us. We both ordered the best steaks. Mine was way better than his but we decided to agree to disagree. The food was absolutely fantastic.
Followed by a trip to the movies, where we saw "Alice Through the Looking Glass." This was by far one of the best dates. I am so thankful for my significant otter. Evan thank you for such a great date and for remembering how much I love otters. Good luck trying to top it next year.
