Everyone experiences life differently and that does not stop when it comes time to pick a major. I started at Fisher with a deep interest in how I could extend my certain interests into a career, and my COMM 101 class helped solidify that my curiosity was a true passion. Other classmates in the same major may want to enter other areas of the field or create a career catered to their interests with the help of what they have learned. Students at Fisher and other schools in the subject of media are unique creatures and understand some common characteristics that come with our dedication and studies.
Your passion for pointing out details and terminology can confuse those around you.
You are obsessed with one piece of content whether it be in media, art or social media.
Older people seem to think you are now their personal IT specialist.
You know you could totally use a new piece of tech, but can’t afford it. #brokecollegestudent
Over the years, you have obtained a generous collection of stickers for your laptop and fandom merchandise.
You critique reporters on TV, journalists, serious television dramas and much more… but you do so now silently in your head because it annoys your loved ones.
You have a certain routine when it comes to the internet, creating content, or editing (dedicated playlists, sitting outdoors etc.).
Baristas now know your name and drink of choice at the coffee shop you regularly attend with laptop along for the ride.
You start to become weirdly good at putting together a presentation or article together last minute.
Finally, you can get frustrated when multiple finals come your way, but you don’t regret your major for a second!
Some majors can be the wrong choice for certain people, and it is perfectly natural to switch. If you have a passion and love for what you are studying, then don’t let anyone tell you different. Living life and making a difference can be done in big and small ways. Communication is one part and media fulfills the other; therefore, they make the perfect couple.
