It's Time For The Complainers Of The World To Shut Up

Get a real problem, am I right?

Let us be honest. On average, every human complains about 10-15 times a day or more without even realizing it or meaning to complain. It can be something so little such as the car in front of you not using their turn signal, you stubbing your toe, spilling your coffee, etc. Little things like these can really ruin our day if you think about it. You are at work wearing a white shirt or blouse and you spill your dark roast coffee on the front of it. Or you forget your notebook for a specific class that you really needed to help you throughout that class. Or you packed yourself a lunch that you realized you really are not in the mood for. But are these really things to be complaining about? Are these issues that are going to make or break your life?

I am not sure about the rest of you, but we live in a society where we are given so much yet we still find things to complain about. In a way, it is almost selfish the way we live our lives. We are given clean water, transportation, whether it be a car, bus, plane or train we have ways to get around, food can be purchased, grown, or received through stores, soup kitchens, gardens, etc. But somehow we are given all these wonderful things yet we still find reasons to complain.

Is it because we are so fortunate to have the things we have, therefore we are used to it and expect more? I would say so. If you were to go to Africa and visit with the kids and have them list the things they wanted compared to the kids in the United States, the lists would be very different. They would range from food, water, a bed, and clothes to iPads, a car, shoes, jewelry, etc.

Aside from the major issues of the world, how about the friends that always seem to find a reason to complain about the littlest things? We all have them so do not be shy if you can relate. You could all be hanging out, grabbing a bite to eat and every topic that your group discusses or gossips about, a complaint would be every other word that comes out of their mouth. Then you start to wonder do they ever not complain? Do they even realize how much they complain and how annoying it is? Well, clearly not because they continue to do it.

As the listeners and the thinkers of the world, there is not much we can do about these people. You could call them out and tell them to shut up or get a real problem, but I am not sure how far you will get with that. It is up to us to realize how fortunate and lucky we are; to embrace every day and not turn into the complainers in the world. Yes, of course, it is okay to complain every once in awhile or when something really goes wrong in your life, but not about the nonsense that you sometimes can’t even control. Life is so short and simple if we make it that way, so lets all test ourselves to not complain and start embracing!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
