So the time has finally come for our 44th president, Barack Obama, to leave the oval office and move on with post-presidency life. Meanwhile, we have a new incoming president, Donald Trump, who has been sworn in. While President Obama has had a couple of terms full of pleasant memories, encouragement, and the rebuilding of America's economy and infrastructure, we will have to move on to Donald Trump's new term in office.

Donald Trump's — or should I refer to him as President Trump's — inauguration ceremony has brought forth much heated backlash from across the nation. Protests happened in many major cities on the day of his inauguration to the lack of attendance and support at his inauguration ceremony. People tuned into Live streams from Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to see upset people causing riots, damaging property, and antagonizing civilians. Anybody who viewing these events would want to turn off their monitor or exit their mobile app in disgust.

With the negative events that are being said in the news, there are fortunately ways and precautions that you can take to get you mind off of President Trump.

1. Watch Netflix.

Feel free to just BINGE on Netflix for the weekend. The recent events are quite depressing and it is easy to fall into the pit of anxiety for the future so feel free to watch some mind numbing television. Good shows to watch are "A Series of Unfortunate Events," "Bobs Burgers," "Archer," and "Drunk History."

2. Take a trip on the town.

Feel free to call or test your friends and go out for a day on the town. Take your time to see a movie or have a picnic in the park. However, please be careful since there might be small protests and micro rallies that you need to steer clear of.

3. Go on a road trip.

There is something magical about driving that forces you to take your mind off of whatever is bothering you and tells you to keep you mind on the road. Going for a long drive can help your mind focus on getting from point A to point B. Feel free to listen to a podcast to keep your mind driving on the road. A quick trip to the coast should be fun and exciting.

4. Find some books to read.

Reading novels can take your mind off of what is going on, just make sure that they are not news or media publishings. Some good novels to start with are "Ready Player One," "Girl on the Train" (which is also a sub-par movie), and "The Circle."

With the oncoming presidency of Mr. Donald Trump, it is important to not be dragged in the vicious circle of politics and corrrpution and focus more on the artistic and natural world around us.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
