Why Being Sick In College Is The Worst
The Odyssey Online

I am someone who gets sickall the time. It is so annoying, but being in college, it's even more aggravating. Getting sick as a college student is the absolute worst, and here are some reasons why.

1. You don't have your mom to take care of you anymore.

When you are sick, there is nothing better than having your mom there to nurse you back to health. Moms will do anything you need while you are sick, but now, you're on your own in college and still have to manage to take care of your sick self. (Next time you're sick at home, you'll be forever grateful for your mom.)

2. Being sick is expensive.

When you are at home, you can ask your family to get you medicine or take you to the doctor. However, in college, it is up to you to drag yourself to the doctor and go and buy your own medications, tissues, and hot tea. Sometimes finding enough spare change to make all your necessary "sick purchases" is hard enough in itself.

3. Skipping class could really screw you over.

Growing up when you were sick, you had friends who could help with homework, your parents would just write a note for you to take to school when you got better, and you had multiple days to catch up on any missed assignments. If you skip class in college, you don't get multiple chances to makeup work and sometimes your professors are not the most understanding of individuals.

4. Your friends don't want to help take care of you.

And can you blame them? I mean, being sick in college is the worst, and they don't want to be the next one stuck in bed all day. When they get sick, then who is going to help take care of them? Not you.

5. You just want to constantly sleep.

If you were already falling behind in classes, sleeping the day away is definitely not helping. But when I'm sick now, all I want to do is lay in my comfy bed and sleep away my pain.

6. Taking a test while being sick is just a set up for failure.

So you decided to go to class because you have a test? Well taking a test with a runny nose, a headache, and the overall feeling of being sick, completely takes your concentration off of the test. You're basically doomed from the start.

7. You think death is upon you.

Okay, so maybe that's a little dramatic, but to the sick college kid, that is exactly what every runny nose feels like.

So to those of you who get sick all of the time like me, you're not alone in your horrible college sick days. College students everywhere know that when they feel themselves getting sick, it is all going to be down hill from there.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
