First, we heard about Calvin Harris and Taylor Swift breaking up. Memes about Taylor's love life began to overtake twitter as they guessed what her next song would be about it. Then, we heard about "Hiddleswift." In case you've been living under a rock recently, that is the nickname that was given to British actor Tom Hiddleston and Taylor Swift, who began seeing each other after Taylor and Calvin's break-up. People began to speculate that Taylor had actually cheated on Harris or that it was a wild publicity stunt. We also learn from representatives of Taylor that one of Harris's songs was cowritten by Taylor. More drama begins to spread. Lastly, Kim Kardashian, a woman famous for literally nothing, illegally "leaks a snapchat" that has footage of "Taylor agreeing to have her name used in Kanye's song 'Famous,'" although Kanye definitely does not tell Taylor all of the lyrics that were in the song or mention that a creepy wax figure of her body would be lying next to him in a bed.
Why am I writing about any of this? Doesn't it seem a little ridiculous?
You're right. It is very ridiculous! Honestly, I am huge fan of Taylor Swift. Always have been, always will be. Not because I think she's perfect, but because she writes great music and she's great to her fans. While Kim K was "ruining Taylor's career," Taylor was in Australia with Tom Hiddleston, visiting fans in the hospital! Swift spends a lot of her time trying to write her own music, hang out with her friends and take care of her fans. But the only thing that people remember is that some of her music is inspired by her past relationships and that some of her friends are models or other famous women. Why do we spend so much time trying to find things to hate about Taylor Swift? I don't know.
Also, right at the same time of the "leaked snapchat," Melania Trump plagiarized part of a speech from Michelle Obama. But did anyone claim that it was going to ruin her or Trump's career? No. They just made jokes about it.
So what point am I trying to make? There are things that matter a lot more than being very, very specific about what part of the song that Kanye asked permission for. Things like being a good friend, taking time to see your fans, and writing awesome music. Also, Kanye, if you ever stumble on this article, you literally never made Taylor Swift famous. She treated with you a lot of grace after you embarrassed her at the VMAs. Honestly, I had never heard of YOU before that. So can we please just stop caring about this and care about something that actually matters? Let's just shake it off.
