If you are reading this, one of three things has happened: you are probably sick, you think you are getting sick, or everyone around you is dropping like flies. Troves of people are starting 2018 with illnesses, and it stinks. However, there are a few things you can do this season that will help you get well soon, as a well as some ideas to spend the time you have under house arrest. Although it is not exhaustive, below is the six-step system for what to do when you get sick.

1. Call or email anyone who is expecting you for the next day or two.

This may seem like a drag because you don't feel like doing anything, but don't forget to let work know that you can't come in so they can call in reinforcements, and remember to let your professor know in case there is any makeup work. Better safe than sorry!

2. Call your doctor.

Yes, you need to see a doctor. Whether you are more comfortable seeing your family doctor back home, an emergency care physician, or the quacks at the campus doctor's office, you need to ensure that you get yourself an appointment or show up for the walk-ins. Doctors have the power to give you some strong stuff that you may not be able to find on the shelves at Target or OTC.

3. Take a hot bath.

Drop a bath bomb or two in and soak in the smelly goodness. It'll probably help with the congestion and definitely with the sore muscles.

4. Take some medicine.

You went to the doctor for a reason! Take as much as is allowed hourly or daily, depending on the instructions.

5. Drink lots of water, as much as you can stomach.

I know when you are sick, the last thing you want to do is eat or drink anything. Take your medicine from step 4 with an entire glass of water. You may have to pee a ton, but at least you are hydrated. We want to flush the bad stuff out and bring the good stuff in.

6. Take a nap.

If nothing else, this helps you pass the time, but it also is essential for getting better. Don't act like you're mad. Odds are, you're a pro at this anyway.

Even when you are sick, you deserve to take care of yourself. No need to call Mom. You've got this!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
