You wake up on a Sunday morning, slowly open your eyes and THUD! You were planning on having a great day, the sun is shining, but you woke up with a headache...again.
Don't give up just yet....most of the time the stress of having a headache actually gives you a headache. These are the few things that I resort to when I am on the mission of getting rid of my headache.
Ice
When your head is throbbing, an ice pack is the way to go. You do not want to fill up a plastic bag with ice cubes because I like to lay on the ice pack so that way you don;t have ice cubes stabbing you. I use a gel ice pack and bend it/place it wherever the headache is locate. I either try to fall asleep or just close my eyes as the coldness takes away the pain for a few minutes.
Turn Your Phone off
Darkness helps relieve the intensity of the pain. Turn your TV, Laptop, Phone and lights off to lay in a pitch black room. I even have blackout curtains that help the headaches that I have during the day. I will close them and take a nap in the pitch black which helps 8/10 of the times.
Tension Headache Excedrin
I have been to neurologists and have tried several medications, and most of them work (thank you G-D) but the easiest, cheapest one is Tension Headache Excedrin..the purple bottle. It is magic and most of the time I can just take one even though it calls for 2. Take it as soon as you feel the pain...my mother told me this all the time but I would always wait, Bad Choice.
Stay Hydrated
I know you hear the doctors tell you this all the time but dehydration can give you a painful headache so the more fluids you drink the better you will feel all around. It is easy to forget when you are laying in bed in pain.
Let Your Hair Down....Seriously
Take your hair out of the ponytail and just let your hair rest on your pillow. No stress or pull on your head can be relaxing and soothing which would help relieve your headache. Run your fingers through your hair softly. I know every minute you have to move your head..its like THUD, THUD, THUD.
Breathe In...and Out...Repeat
Taking a deep breath in and out can really help calm you, therefore relieve any stress that might be causing your headache especially if it is a tension headache. Focusing on your breathing will distract you from the pain and soothe your body.
