5 Truths For People Who Have A Sibling That Is Close In Age

In This Article:

It's a blessing and a curse to have a sibling so close in age to you. In my case, my younger brother "keeps me young". We are about 19 months apart, and I wouldn't change it for the world. Any kind of siblings are the best, but in my experience, the younger ones are especially fun. Whether you are younger or older than your sibling that you are close in age too, the roles probably reverse quite a bit. You might look just like this sibling, or you might be complete opposites- in more way than one. Either way, having a sibling that you can relate to on so many levels is so fun and I am grateful to have grown up with my built-in best friend.

1. You all get confused as twins

My brother and I look really similar, so this happens a lot for us, especially when we were growing up. I have never minded though. I have always wanted a twin, so it's kind of the same thing, right?

2. People always want to know which one is older

one

Sometimes it's easy to tell, but in my case, my little brother is a lot taller than me, so sometimes people think he's the older one. I am always quick to point out that I'm the older sibling though. I still have those bragging rights, at least.

3. You all fight

sibling fight

Yes, siblings of all ages fight, but I feel like the fights can get pretty nasty when you are so close in age. It was definitely a learning curve when my brother got bigger and stronger than me that he couldn't beat up on me as much, and I couldn't either. Obviously, we don't stay mad at each other for long though.

4. You can relate on so many levels

laughing

Since you are so close in age, you are basically growing up in the same generation and can share tweets and Instagram posts that make you both laugh because you are on the same page. My brother and I share a similar sense of humor, so we are constantly laughing about the same things, or talking about our favorite Netflix shows and movies.

5. You always have someone to talk to

Just like being able to relate to this sibling, it is nice to always have someone to talk to. Some people have siblings that are a lot older or younger than them and don't feel as close, so having a sibling so close makes life a lot easier. I love that I can always call my brother when I need advice and that he looks up to me for advice on so many things.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
