Shuttle Etiquette 101

Just in case you forgot all those manners your mom taught you.

Caldwell Transportation

As a person who has to ride the shuttle from one campus to another close to every day of the week, I notice things. I happen to notice all of the things that people do and say that can be rather unappealing and quite frankly rude. So here is a little reminder of things not to do on the shuttle.

1. Please do not push ahead of me to get on the shuttle first.

We are all in a hurry and we all have something to do I can assure you of that. Just because you think what you have to do is more important doesn't give you the right to shove past me just to be 4 seats ahead. So kindly wait your turn and relax.

2. If I can hear your music from across the shuttle its too loud.

I have actually been able to sing along to some people's music even though they are 5 rows behind me. This is not only annoying for those of us who may not share in your taste in music but probably not very good for your ear drums as well.

3. Personal conversations are not meant for the shuttle.

I have over heard so many things that I wish I hadn't. My general rule is "if you wouldn't share it with your parents don't share it on the shuttle". The other shuttle riders (and driver) will appreciate not knowing all of the illegal things you did last weekend and all sorts of other TMI that you are freely sharing.

4. If there are only a few seats left and you have your stuff in the seat next to you, move it.

This happens to me quite frequently, I get on the shuttle and there are only like 3 seats left and all of them have backpacks in them. Kindly move your stuff out of my way so I can sit instead of pacing back and forth or just awkwardly staring at you. Trust me I don't want to sit next to anyone just as much as you don't but clearly that's not happening.

5.Don't be rude to the shuttle drivers.

The shuttle drivers are just doing their jobs and honestly they will work with you if you have a problem. Say thank you and please, and just don't be a jerk.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
