At Sacred Heart, there's so many unique aspects that make it the school that it is. An amazing community, tons of opportunities, There's plenty to learn strictly through experience, but I think we all can agree that there are some basics that every SHU freshman should know out of the gate.
Get Involved
This is by far the most important thing that you'll hear from other students. We've all heard it 1000 times, but it couldn't be more true. With a smaller sized school, if you don't get involved, you're going to find yourself bored 24/7 and feeling out of place. Everybody does something through the school, whether it be club sports, Greek life, or other organizations. Believe me when I say this: if you don't get involved, you won't get the typical Sacred Heart experience most students love.
Conserve Meal Dollars
This is the one piece of advice I desperately wish I was given last semester. Three weeks left in the semester and I had a grand total of 0 swipes and 2 declining dollars. They always go faster than you think, so try not to eat the most expensive thing on the Linda's menu 4 times a day. Otherwise you'll end up eating ramen noodles for every meal and some ice soup for a snack.
Always Go To Merritt
It's a glorious landmark. With its neon yellow lights and blue paint job, it's one of the best sights past 1am. With a menu that will appeal more than anything you could imagine after midnight, a plethora of mac and cheese bites and a bacon egg and cheese burger will be the best decision of your week. If somebody is going, always tag along.
Never Skips Blocks
While you can get away with missing one or two of your freshman english or art of thinking classes, don't think about missing any block classes. While it might not seem like a terrible idea when you have to get up for your 9:30-11:45 on Friday morning, I promise you'll instantly regret it when the very next class you have no idea what unit you're even on.
Follow these 4 tips, and you may just be alright.
