In the past couple of years, Netflix has become an extremely popular way to watch television shows and movies, and is ideal for college students who may not want to pay for cable. You can re-watch a favorite show or movie, or start something new and get completely hooked. I recently finished a television series I have been watching for a while, and now I'm trying to find a new show to watch. I always get different suggestions from friends, but narrowing down what you really want to watch can be difficult. For all of you out there who need a new show to watch for over winter break, or for a study break during finals, I've compiled a short list of shows I've watched, or am planning on watching in hopes that you might enjoy them too!
1. The Following
I feel like The Following has been a little underrated since it came out, but trust me, this show is amazing. If you like crime shows with a dark twist, you will love it. The plot follows a former FBI agent as he comes back into the force after a serial killer he put in jail years ago escapes. The FBI slowly begins to realize that throughout his time in jail, the killer formed a cult of followers who are all trying to help him kill more people. It's a really thrilling show, and actually kind of scary at some points! I highly recommend it!
2. Bob's Burgers
On a lighter note, this show is one you can pick up at anytime, and you don't have to watch all the way through, but it's funny enough that you probably will. It follows the Belcher family and their crazy day-to-day lives as they try to manage their family burger business. The characters are all really unique and likable, and each episode brings a new crazy thing that happens to them.
3. Criminal Minds
If you haven't boarded the Criminal Minds train yet, I suggest you do so. This show is awesome. There are ten seasons on Netlfix, which makes it perfect for watching over Winter Break, and it's not like every other crime show out there. This FBI team is with the Behavioral Analyst Unit, so you get your fill of serial killers, psychopaths, and the like. It's one of those shows where you become so invested in the characters that you feel as if they are real. No episode is the same, and it's very entertaining!
4. How to Get Away with Murder
If you can't already tell, I really like crime and murder shows. This one was recommended to me by a friend, and I've only just started watching it. From what I can already tell, it's not your typical murder show. It takes place at a college where a law professor and successful lawyer and several of her students somehow become entangled in a murder mystery. You get bits and pieces of past and future events in one episode, and it's up to you to put the pieces together. It makes you really think about what could actually be happening, and that makes for good television.
5. The 100
This show was also recommended to me by a friend, and I have yet to start watching it, so I'm right along with you on this one! It follows the post-apocalyptic trend that we've been seeing the past couple years, and is actually based on a book series. 100 kids are sent back to earth after it was abandoned because of a nuclear war in order to determine if humans can live on earth again. I've heard really good things about the show so I'm looking forward to starting it!
These are just a few of the countless suggestions I've received, and many of them pertain to the kinds of shows I normally watch. However I encourage you to explore these shows and watch them when you have time. You won't be disappointed!
