Calling All 'Black Mirror' Fans, Check Out 'Channel Zero'

Calling All 'Black Mirror' Fans, Check Out 'Channel Zero'

I recently watched "Channel Zero" for the first time and my finishing thought was "what the..." in a great, great way.

You know when you have a nightmare and all of the made up creatures, scenarios, rooms, etc. blend in with the realistic parts so well that, while you're still in the dream, it all works and flows together to create a story? That's kind of what this show is like.

Things are far-fetched, nonsensicle, and clearly straight out of someone's imagination without too much effort to be "normal" or comparable to something else you've seen before. It's like you're viewing a recording of the main characters' nightmares.

The series is similar to "Black Mirror" in the way that each season, rather than episode, is an alternate reality where a crazy and usually dark plot unravels. It gives off a similar, otherworldly vibe while visually depicting the real world enough to make the stories feel all too real.

However, I'd describe these seasons as more of horrors rather than the psychological thrillers of "Black Mirror". The best way I can put it is think "Black Mirror" but less technology and more monsters. CREEPY. AWESOME. MONSTERS.

This stuff came from some freaky imaginations. In fact, they're all based off of Creepypastas, short horror fiction stories.

While they're all extremely different, one thing I can say about the seasons of "Channel Zero" collectively is that they never fails to give you a shocking plot twist or expended scene... and that's coming from someone who is a self-proclaimed pro at guessing *what will happen next*!

Prepare to be weirded out but also to THINK. Each season has a deeper meaning and is filled with symbolism.

Season 1 - "Candle Cove"

CHANNEL ZERO | Trailer #1 | SYFYwww.youtube.com

Based on based on the creepypasta "Candle Cove" by Kris Straub, this first season is centered around a well-known psychologist who returns to his hometown to investigate his brother's childhood disappearance, one that was linked to similar disappearances that all occurred around the time a mysterious children's television show aired.

What was so mysterious about this show? Only certain people remember it ever existing. So, waw it transmitting something dark to its viewers or was this timing just a strange coincidence? The psychologist plans to find out, especially now that a young girl claims to have seen it on TV again.

Season 2 - "No-End House"

Ever felt trapped in a haunted house? This season takes it to Based on the Creepypasta written by Brian Russell, the "No-End House" is an idea that's absolutely fascinating to me.

Friends track down and visit a semi-secret pop-up haunted house, only to find that it becomes a bit more personal and lasts a bit more time than expected. To me, this season has the biggest plot twist.

Season 3 - "Butcher's Block"

CHANNEL ZERO: BUTCHER'S BLOCK | Teaser Trailer | SYFYwww.youtube.com

This one is seriously disturbing on so many levels but completely captivating. The visuals are insane and just as beautiful as they are horrifying.

Based on 8 short stories from "Search and Rescue Woods" by Kerry Hammond, this season shows two sisters move in hopes of escaping a family struggling with mental illness just to find that they'll be living right next to Butcher's Block, a town with a glaring history of disappearances that supposedly got its name from the meat factory that used to run the town, although local legends say the origin is much more sinister.

Season 4 - "The Dream Door"

CHANNEL ZERO: THE DREAM DOOR | Trailer | SYFYwww.youtube.com

"The Dream Door" is based on the short story Hidden Door by Charlotte Bywater. It follows newlyweds as they make an interesting discovery of a mysterious door in the basement of their new home... that they don't remember seeing when they moved in.

In this season, trust becomes a little extra scary as the wife quite literally battles through balancing the decision to commit herself to a life with her husband, giving up her sense of comfort, and warding off the monsters that seem to be escaping her head and intruding on her daily life.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
