Having a naturally negative mind is probably the worst. But there are definitely ways to overcome it.
1. Find a Reason To Laugh
There has got to be something funny happening in the world. Whether that means talking to a friend or watching youtube, laugh about something. Laughter is probably the best medicine. I know that's just a saying, but it's so true. Laugh yourself a new set of abs. I know you want to!
2. Distract Yourself
Stop thinking about whatever is so horrible and find something else to do. This could be anything. Play a game on your phone. Call a friend. You could even go hit a punching bag. Whatever works, do it!
3. Write a List of "Thank You"s
Figure out what you're thankful for. There are many things we overlook in a day that we ought to be thankful for. Sometimes changing our mindset to the positives can really change our day. This thank you list can be short or long. You can find many things to be thankful as you want, as long as there are some.
4. Exercise
Exercise actually increases chemicals in your body that make you happier. When you really can't take the negativity anymore, work it out. Literally. Just put effort into doing push ups or listening to the girl on the TV tell you it's easy when it's not. Just do it!
5. Read a Book
Sometimes putting yourself in someone else's shoes is fun and practical. This can really be any book. Live in a fantasy or learn more about Jesus. Either way, you should be able to move on with life.
6. Find Someone to Tell You That You're Wrong
Explain to someone that there are wrong thoughts in your head. This could get a little awkward, I know from experience. But just let them know that they need to tell you that you are wrong, they probably will. Our friends don't want us thinking horrible things either.
7. Go Outside
Go soak up some Vitamin D, enjoy the sun, and live life. Life goes on. It really does. Sometimes a stroll or sitting on a swing help put this in perspective. Just knowing that no one else is dwelling on this same thought helps push it away occasionally.
8. Go To Sleep
I've been told this a lot. Many times negative thoughts overcome my mind when I'm tired. Most of those times, my friends tell me to go to sleep. Some friends I have.... No, really, it helps. I hate when they tell me to go to sleep, but seeing something with a new perspective in the morning is always helpful
9. Give It Up
Give the thought up to God. He knows this is something you struggle with. He knows this is probably not the first time you've had this thought. It is a reoccurring thing. He doesn't want you to keep a hold of that and let it drown out His truths, so let Him handle it. He really will.
10. Put the Phone Down
No, you don't need to start drama by telling your negative thoughts to other people. This is not smart. You will not be happy if this ends or changes a relationship you have with someone. Most likely your thoughts are inaccurate, so recognize that and move on.
11. Love Yourself
Teach yourself that you are good enough. You should be able to boost your self-esteem and recognize that you don't need to change to impress others or yourself. Love who you are. Love who God made you to be!
There may be other ways to push those negative thoughts out of your mind, but these are just a few that I've tried and found success. It may always be a struggle, but you can work at winning. Those thoughts don't have any right to share a place in your brain. Overtake them! You will thank yourself!
