Where I live it has rained for the past few days. Rainy days are no fun especially when you are busy. You find yourself in a bad mood, and you really just want to nap. However, I have always loved the rain because it serves as a very special reminder to me.
“Let us acknowledge the Lord; let us press on to acknowledge him. As surely as the sun rises, he will appear; he will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth.””Hosea 6:3
Hosea 6:3 is my favorite Bible verse. I first heard this verse when I was going through a spiritual "drought." I remember trying so hard to feel God's presence in my life. I studied my Bible every night and prayed constantly. However, I couldn't experience this overwhelming feeling it seemed everyone else had. I remember feeling so out of place until I heard this verse. God immediately turned my drought into a flood. Through this verse, he showed me that as sure as the sun rises he's with me. He doesn't have to burst down my door every morning just so I know he's here. He comes as a spring shower (super relevant in the upcoming months).
A shower of rain is light and doesn't do any damage. However, you can feel the drops gently hit your head and run down your face. This verse reminds me that I don't need to have an overwhelming feeling to feel God in my life. He is in the little things as well as the big things. When I have a good day he's there. I don't have to win a million dollars to see God moving in my life. Seeing him get me through a day with his love and protection is proof enough that he is there with me.
So the next time you are caught in a rainy day rut put down your umbrella and have a moment with your Lord. Let the rain represent God's gracious love that he constantly showers upon us. It's kind of amazing to think someone I know will never leave no matter how far I stray, or no matter how much I mess up. He is with you in the little things. Rain is my reminder, but think about what your's is. Is it sunshine, flowers, or words people say? Enjoy these little blessings, and always keep your rain boots handy.
