Mother's Day is sooner than you think, Sunday May 8th! Personally, my mom is my best friend and I want her to know how special she is to me. This will be our first year apart for her special day which is going to be hard, but I still want to make it a special day for her. All moms are different, but if you follow this guide you're bound to show her how much you appreciate the important role she plays in your life.
Store-bought gifts:
1.) A new coffee mug or travel mug. Most mom's start their day out with a cup of coffee, so give them something that will be a daily reminder of how much you love them.
2.) Perfume. I gave my mom perfume this year for Christmas and now every morning when she's getting ready she puts it on and think of me. It's a fun way to be in your moms life every day even when you're separated at college.
3.) A spa gift certificate. I think that moms are so under appreciated for the work they do and it's EXHAUSTING! Every mom needs at least an hour off. A mani pedi certificate or a body massage certificate is the perfect fix.
An activity to do together:
Surprise your mom with a day trip! Even if you can't do it on Mother's Day because you're at school, show her that you want to spend time together. Plan a day trip for when you get home from college. Buy a gift certificate to a restaurant you two want to go to, purchase concert tickets to a band you think you would both like, or maybe a fun kayaking excursion. Think about something that you would both want to do together when you're reunited.
Home-made gifts:
Of course, most moms do love presents, but it really is the thought that counts. I cannot express enough how much a written card will mean to your mom. Gifts will come and go, but you can never put a price tag on a hand written card. Just know that moms really do save your cards for life; it may seem crazy, but such a small gesture means so much to them.
Last year for Mother's Day, my siblings and I reached out to my mom's closest friends and relatives asking them to send us a hand written note or email about a certain memory they have with my mom. Once we had them all we put them in a binder and included photos and such. This way when your mom is having a bad day she can open this book up and remember happy times with each of the closest people in her life.
Overall you just want to show your mom you love her. It's hard to be away from your mom while you're at school but remember that it's still important to show her that you love her. Take advantage of the time we still have left before Mother's Day and plan something special. Make an effort to buy a gift, write a letter, or make a home-made gift before you get in the swing of finals.
