The month of October is not only the month where the leaves begin to change, the weather becomes cooler, or when everyone gets super pumped for Halloween. October is also the time to acknowledge an unrelenting disease that affects BOTH men and women, which is Breast Cancer.
Almost every person has a personal tie to or knows someone who has experienced this devastating illness. I not only have a personal tie, having had a family member fight and win the battle against breast cancer, but I am also part of an amazing organization that raises money, education, and awareness for breast cancer.
In fact, this weekend my sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha, will be going out to support the survivors of breast cancer as they complete the Making Stride 5k. It is such an amazing opportunity to meet these women who have fought breast cancer, some having multiple fights and they have not lost their spirits. Their resilience is so beautiful. I understand that not everybody gets to see how their donations and efforts make a difference, but know that they truly do.
So I encourage everyone to not necessarily go out and donate a whole bunch of money, but spread awareness about breast cancer. Yes, there are plenty of survivors, but why wouldn’t we want more people to become more aware of their bodies and potentially catch it early? Or why wouldn’t we want to have the best treatment possible? Or why wouldn’t you want to help save the TATAS?! But in all seriousness, there are way too many men and women affected by this disease to not help, so please show your love to those affected, those who fought, and if nothing else, just your love for the tatas in general.
