As Christmas time approaches, it is very easy to forget the real reason for the season. We think about the presents, the lights, and the endless amounts of food. Here's a small list of things to remember this holiday season.
1. Everything is returnable.
If you don't like a gift, act excited. I promise it will make your families day to know you are happy about a gift you have received. Most stores have extended return policies for Christmas gifts so you can always have that as a back up option.
2. Spend time with your family.
Teens, put your phones down. Adults, stop watching so much tv. Get everyone involved this holiday season. Find a board game, card game, or game on tv that everyone can watch. Spending time with your family is important this season. Be thankful you get to spend time with them. Remember, there are families who would kill to be in your position.
3. Thank someone.
Whether it be your grandma who made Christmas dinner, your sister who is talking with you, or your dad who let you bring the family pet to Christmas at his parents house this year, thank them. Nothing in this world is guaranteed, so spend every chance you can thanking those who have sacrificed so much for you.
4. Show love to everyone.
I know sometimes holidays are when you get together with cousin Becky or aunt Jane that you don't particularly like, but enjoy time with your family. Some families are bending backwards just to spend time with their loved ones on the holidays. Be grateful for the time you have with everyone and show love to all.
And finally,
5. Remember the real reason for the season.
Take a minute to step back and really reflect on your year. This is a time to be thankful for the many blessings you have. It gives us a chance to gather around as one and give thanks to our Lord above for all the blessings we receive.
So this Christmas season, remember the real reason for the season. Show love to all and spread his joy with others. One day those blessings will come back. He's always watching. So spread love and joy this holiday season and remember the real reason for the season.
Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!
