Shout Out To Pennsbury High School

Right in the suburbs of Philly in Bucks County, PA lies one of the most well-known high schools of all time, Pennsbury. I say this because probably half of the world attended it at one point having some of the largest graduating classes that were ever heard of, but it is so much more than that. If you have attended Pennsbury at all you know a few of these to be true.

1. First and foremost, the graduating classes, they are huge. Never in my life have I ever heard of people who have graduated with around 1,000 people in high school besides Pennsbury. When you attend graduation there are people you have never seen a day in your life.

2. 4 Words, #1 Prom in America. You are proud of this when describing our prom most people use words like, the parade of floats, John Mayer, Ryan Cabrera, Chinese news station, etc... Our prom is so well known there was a book written on it called "Wonderland" and if you graduated from Pennsbury you tell everyone about that book.

3. Preparation of prom. You know that Pennsbury students, parents and faculty prepare for prom all year round to completely transform Pennsbury East to be every prom goers dream.

4. Sports Nite, the next best thing compared to prom. This has been a tradition for decades, junior and senior students participate in a night full of games, dancing, and just extreme fun for orange vs. black.

5. If you went to Pennsbury before the 90's you know that Medill Bair was the original 6th, 7th, and 8th grade, and then changed to 9th and 10th grade, and chances are if you run into someone that went there they let you know that in advance.

6. Now Pennsbury Highschool is split into 2 schools, yet both are one campus, which is really hard to describe to people that never went there.

7. In the splitting of schools became "The Path" the dreaded words of students who have to walk in the extreme cold, rain, heat, and anything in between to get from school to school. Chances are if you're walking you are going to be late because there is always one person who walks at a snail pace, and you might end up seeing a fight.

8. On rainy days now, students have no choice, but to take the shuttle bus from school to school, which is hard to catch, and packed to the brim, and you might get into an argument on who was next to get on.

9. If you went to Pennsbury at all you know of the "smokers corner", where students who couldn't smoke on campus had to go, and all huddled together on rainy, and cold days just to smoke a cig.

10. You also know that the meetup spot was Burger King after school until the cops started getting called.

11. At one point in the 60s, and 70s you could leave campus in between classes and go grab lunch, nowadays that is a "security hazard."

13. Chances are if you went to Pennsbury, so did your parents so many years ago, and they tell other parents, and that's how they bond.

14. You're parents also had some of your teachers when they were students there, and/or graduated with some of your teachers.

15. If you know anything about Pennsbury the least you may know is the dreaded school bus accident that happened in 2007, where a student was crushed under a bus on campus, and her leg had to be amputated.

16. If you went to Pennsbury you know our arch nemesis has been, and always will be Neshaminy.

17. You know all the famous people that graduated from PHS like Troy Vincent, Lavoy Allen, Asher Roth, Matthew Schuler, Jimmy Oxford, etc...

18. You've definitely attended at least one football game, GO FALCONS... Orange, black, and white forever! Our sports teams were always the best.

19. You try to avoid the traffic during events, games, proms, school hours, at all costs because it extends all the way down New Falls Rd, and you'll sit there for at least 30 minutes...

20. You've parked on Hood Boulevard at least once in your high school career.

21. The gravel lot, full of students who enjoy showing off their cars, and doing burn outs so the dust kicks up and covers everybody in the way.

22. After graduation, half of the student body went to Penn State, and the other half went to Temple, and some stragglers in between went to other state schools, and BCCC. (Yes the numbers don't add up)

23. The senior prank was taken very seriously, at one point on the pool house there was a penis spray painted on the roof, which is why there is a different colored section

24. Senior skip day, the day where if you went to school you either already missed too much or just wanted to be an overachiever...

25. EOP, the day where you had an hour to not do anything, and "work on homework", but, in reality, chatted, especially if you knew Mr. Vetter, you were definitely in his EOP room.

26. You know that West is way better than East, especially because West has windows, and East was made by a man who was a prison architect, therefore it was solid concrete walls, with no windows, no service, and one bathroom per gender.

27. You thank your lucky stars every day that you had such a complete mixture of people in your high school and were exposed to it an early age, and it made you more prepared for college.

28. You kept all of your friends since high school, and you miss PHS.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
