When it comes to planning your big day, arguably one of the most important things is making sure that all the memories you'll be making at your wedding will be captured. That's where the photographer comes in. The unsung heroes of one of the biggest days in a couples' lives.
If you haven't walked in a wedding photographer's shoes, you may not realize just how important and hectic their job can be. With experience comes grace and the job gets easier, but there is still so much planning that goes into taking the photographs of your wedding. Shot lists have to be thought out and made, venues have to be visited, clients have to be consulted and that's before the wedding even starts.
On the day of the wedding, a wedding photographer's job can go way beyond taking pictures. They are with the wedding party from the time they set foot into the venue to get ready until the last guest leaves. Because they are in such close proximity to you and your wedding party, they will inevitably take on other roles as the day goes on. In my personal experience, I've done everything from dress adjuster, message bringer to even making McDonald's runs. I wouldn't have it any other way. I love being able to go beyond capturing memories to helping make the bride's and groom's day as smooth as possible.
Occasionally it breaks my heart when I hear things like:
"Wedding photographers charge too much."
"They're just taking the pictures."
If I see a photographer or videographer get straight up ignored through a whole wedding, that is upsetting too.
There are photographers that overcharge, but most earn every penny between shooting, editing, printing and equipment costs. "Just taking pictures" is so far from the truth. They are responsible for you having something that you can look back on for years to come. I couldn't imagine not having something like that. Also, I know the day of your wedding is hectic, but it takes almost no time at all to say "thank you" to the one who's been frantically following you around all day.
In conclusion, on behalf of everyone who may not have said it, thank you to my fellow wedding photographers and videographers. I know exactly how much goes into what you do, and your efforts haven't gone unappreciated.
