Shout Out To All My Ladies
mingalondon.com

Shout out to all my curvy gurls. To all my tall girls. To the girls sitting on buses with their chin erect as they watch the city whizz by. Shout out to femalicious females making that money, waking up early to get that grind. Shout out to my mommas out there rubbing pennies together and seeming to make pots of gold.

You know what? Shout out to my ladies in general.

Shout out to the girls looking other ones up and down, and then instead of ripping them apart boosting them up. Shout out to the girls who compliment my pendants. For telling me they love my lipstick. Shout out to the girls handing out compliments like how coaches hand out water bottles to their team players on a hot Florida day.

Shout out to my females. To the ones who are learning this gender, to the ones who share it on occasion. We see you going through some tough times, but it only makes you more bad ass. This is me welcoming you. This is a shoutout for the allies ready to help you too.

Shout out to my girls in love with other girls. Lord give you patience, because I can hardly handle three in one household! And they’re my blood! Round of applause to you for seeing a females sometimes complicated beauty.

Shout out to my nerdy girls. For the ones with their noses stuck in a book, reading off their phone, gaming, writing, and solving complicated equations. When people tell you it’s a dying form laugh. If people tell you anything sideways go on back to what you were doing, hopefully they’ll learn soon enough. And if they don’t, well, natural selection will run it’s course.

Shout out to my she-warriors. To the ones marching for what is right, to the ones walking other girls to their car. To the ones asking a stranger if they need help, and raising money for people in need. Shout out to the strong ladies running soup kitchens and hospitals, to my fierce ladies going to other countries and trying to end a war.

Shout out to my quiet girls. To the ones who get anxious in lines and crowds but still go outside anyways. Do you know how fierce you are? I am so proud of you. There will come a day where you learn how to make it better. There will come a day where this world won't press down on your chest and vocal cords. But until then, I and your friends can shout for you. This is still your shout out.

Shout out to the girls who are stay at home moms. Who cut the sandwich in triangles, hustle the kids to school to play dates to softball practice and to home. I see you there with all your groceries and your kid on your hip. I see you tucking hair back behind their ear and cleaning up those scraped knees. I see you washing down the house. Shout out to you.

Shout out to my lady artists. To the ones painting the stark truth, or finding beauty in a crumbling world. Shout out to you for capturing a person's soul, for designing when times get tough. For creating things where there once had been nothing. You see a blank paper and canvas and see opportunity. You see a new world. Shout out to you.

Shout out to my girls in the back. The ones that are told to sit down. That they talk too black, or ghetto. Shout out to my girls who get pegged with a stereotype every time they voice their opinion, or feelings. You raise that voice, you stand on up, because this shout out is for you. Don't pretend like you can’t hear it.

This is a shout out to all my ladies. To the ones that think they aren’t gorgeous, to the ones that think they aren’t special. To the ones that are being ostracized for their religion. I see you. You are wonderful, and the world is going to see it too. Loving yourself is the first step. Staying strong is the second. The world will fall into place, it has to. It won’t all be for nothing. When your voice falters hopefully you'll see this and remember that you aren't alone, because I see all of you, and this shout out is for all of us.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
