While I was in high school, I promised myself I would never be in a long-distance relationship. I said I could never be silly enough to trust a guy from miles away, but I now realized that I was just immature. Today, I am a college student who's content in the long-distance romance that I am a part of.

My relationship has helped me mature in mysterious ways and aided me in comprehending the importance and necessity of communication skills, not only in my relationship but to get whatever I want in life.

I present to you some reasons why distance should not be a factor that holds you back from beginning a journey with your crush. But of course, long-distance relationships will thrive merely if maturity is present in both partners

1. Appreciating and valuing

Thanks to months of being a part we value each second that is spent together and the basic things that are being done. You learn to appreciate your lover due to the effort and commitment that is given on a daily base when not together. You also learn to make the best out of every situation.

2. Special occasion

Every minute spent together is a scorching moment, well let's just say special occasion for now. Reuniting after months of missing each other and plotting what'll happen when this moment comes makes everything feel perfect, no second is put to waste. The romance never halts it just gets better.

3. Bring back the old times.

Oh, how sweet were our juvenile years where romantic letters were delivered and our unlimited data was put to use.

Shockingly, this age isn't dead.

The romance that exists in this relationship is impeccable. It is such a commitment, one that close-distance relationships rarely make. Phone calls, letters, and facetime calls are significantly treasured, to say the least. So just imagine how our bond is when we are finally together.

4. Away time brings focus.

As a college student, my long-distance relationship has helped me succeed in and out the classroom. The whole point of dating is marriage, and spending twenty-four hours a day with your partner is unquestionably not the way to go.

We are both working towards becoming successful individuals, and it takes time and focus to attain it. This achievement is important because it'll help us succeed as a couple. Therefore, time to oneself is key.

Being away from each other also allows you to discover who you really are and determine if that person is who you truly desire a future with.

5. Clarification

The relationship is more than physical. You don't have to re-live that era where you wonder if your boyfriend is dating you with bad intentions.

If that were the case then he would be dating Stacy from a block down and not the girl he has to waste miles, money, data, and gas on.

AND lastly, if your relationship can survive distance, it can survive anything.

I'll never forget the day that someone told me these words: "Madison, I think you're a good friend to everyone but yourself." I stood there completely in awe of that statement. Before that day, I never really thought about being a friend to myself, and at the time, I didn't really know what it meant. Now, I realize that you can't fully be there for other people unless you're there for yourself, too. You can't show up for others until you're willing to show up for yourself.

Here are five things everyone should learn in order to be a better friend to themselves. These steps are hard, but they're so worth it.

Thanksgiving Break is most likely everyone’s favorite break during the fall semester. You get to go home and reminisce with all your high school friends. That diet you’ve been on for the past month goes out the window, and you get to eat until you put yourself into a food coma. There’s no rush on homework and you can just lie in bed and Netflix to your heart’s content. To me that sounds like an ideally wonderful break, and totally stress-free.
