Should You Put Up a Sign in Your Yard? 4 Reasons Homeowners Use Yard Signs ... and How to Get Your Own

Yard signs are nothing new, and you’re probably so used to them that they’re already fading into the background. However, homeowners don’t seem interested in giving them up. Whether it’s to announce a house is for sale, a garage sale, or an upcoming event, yard signs are popping up all over the neighborhood.

So why are your neighbors so keen on using this old-fashioned method of attention-grabbing? And are they more effective than posting things online?

Let’s have a look at the most common reasons why people put up yard signs and what they’re hoping to achieve by doing so.

1. Signal a Home Business Headquarters

Around 35% of Americans work from home nowadays, and some made the switch (fully or partially) to entrepreneurship. Therefore, if the business targets the local community, it makes sense to install a yard sign that helps people discover it.

On the other hand, some homeowners are proud of their accomplishments and want to brag about their successful at-home businesses. And yard signs offer a reliable and visible way to stand out.

Overall, a yard sign is a great brand awareness tool. It is durable and is not easily affected by the elements. Plus, modern paints and inks resist well in front of UV rays, so the owners don’t have to worry much about maintenance. Plus, it’s easy to get creative with a sign - it’s big enough so people can see it, and you don’t have to pay extra for having it out all day.

2. You can Buy Custom Yard Signs Online

The great thing about yard signs is that they are easy to order in the design and color you want. Just search for custom lawn signs, and you’ll find there’s a wide offer at your fingertips. Plus, they are affordable, which is why so many people consider them one of the best forms of advertisement.

3. Burglar Deterrents

Most home security companies provide stickers and yard signs to show everyone sneaking a peek that your home is protected. This is a good thing because the mere idea of a security system will keep burglars and other ill-intended actors away.

However, some homeowners decided to game the system and install fake security yard signs while skipping the installation of the system altogether. This can be a good strategy, but it has a few caveats.

First, you can’t use the signs of a real security company because you’d be infringing on their copyrighted materials. Second, if you make up a sign from a fake company, a Google search is enough to uncover the scam. When this happens, a burglar will know you have a false sense of security due to your signs and may be more motivated to break in.

4. Political Campaigning

Yard signs are great promoters during political campaigns as it lets people know you are running. Plus, it may also bring you extra voters as people will start talking about it in the community, which may convince some of the undecided people to take a position.

Furthermore, yard signs can help with fundraising for political campaigns as it’s a great way to keep people up to date with the type of support you need. Overall, it’s not something you want to ignore if you plan on running in the next election.

Wrap Up

Yard signs are a great form of communication because they are versatile, durable, and affordable. Plus, due to customization possibilities, homeowners can use them for anything, starting with raising awareness for their business and ending with promoting their children’s weddings to the neighborhood.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
