3 Things You Should Realize About The Victoria Secret Fashion Show

The Victoria Secret Annual Fashion Show. The one TV special that everyone I know seems to prepare for and watch. It seems that each year the show only becomes more popular. Even if you aren't in it for the girls in lingerie, the guest performers will have you hooked; this year's: The Weeknd, Selena Gomez, and Ellie Goulding. Now, I am an AVID watcher. I watch the show every year: I get my popcorn and candy and sit there all heart-eyed watching beautiful women wearing beautiful pieces of lingerie. I love it. What I notice that I don't love, however, is how other women react to the show. They bash their own bodies and spit out way too much negativity about themselves. So here's a couple of things you should keep in mind while watching the special:

1. This is their job

Literally, they get paid to do this. They workout and eat healthfully for weeks in advance. They have personal trainers and nutritionists telling them what to eat and what to do to keep their bodies in tip-top shape. They are also models – they are probably part of the small percent of women in the world built with long lean legs and flawless features. Not everyone looks like this, in fact most people don't.

2. They have professionals prepare them

The girls get their abs contoured, their boobs contoured, and get multiple spray tans. They have professionals do their hair and makeup before they walk. The lingerie worn is fitted to their specific body. Can you imagine how beautiful you would look if you had a glam team? It's like looking at a Kardashian family photo from five years ago – they don't look like totally different people. It's crazy what professionals can do (no hate for the Kardashians, they are fab).

3. They only celebrate one body type

As briefly mentioned above, the models all fit the mold of one body type. There are actual required measurements to be a model. The fashion world is a cruel one. Don't freak if you don't look like them. Nobody really does. They even don't. Remember a lot of these girls have had work done.

Watch the special if you want to, or don't. But if you do, don't be harsh on yourself. Instead, use the special for motivation. If you've been wanting to try that pilates class, do it! Or if you like the way they style their hair, give it a try. Don't just sit and wallow in your own self-hate while complaining about how beautiful they all are. You are just as beautiful.

But as a side note, can we discuss how Selena Gomez absolutely stole the show away? That girl can do no wrong in my book.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
