Why You Should Leave Your Small Town
Small Town Travels

I'm the first one to say that I love my little town. There is no place that I would rather have grown up. I actually really liked knowing everyone in my high school and most of the people in my town. I love how close-knit my community is. My town was the only place I've ever known, until now. I decided to go to college, not too far, but still far enough where I could be on my own in a bigger city. And let me tell you, it was the best decision I've ever made.

Going to a large university, such as Penn State, truly opened my eyes to the world around us. There is so much diversity just on this one campus. It's definitely more than I've ever experienced back home. Because of this, I get to learn new cultures and meet different people every day I'm here. One of my favorite things is that I have the privilege of learning new perspectives on life that I would never have gotten unless I left my hometown. I understand people better. I recognize that everyone has their own story, and that should be respected. I know coming from a small area it's hard to get away from stereotypes or everybody knowing your business, so this is why I challenge you to leave.

Another reason to leave is just to explore. One of my favorite things to do is to travel to new places. I love to see the sights and eat at new restaurants. Navigating new places just gives you a sense of contentment. Your life will be enhanced because of this new journey. Broadening your horizons will make you and this world better, and who doesn't want that? Staying in the same place, especially something as small as my hometown, can put you in a rut. Traveling somewhere can redirect your life emotionally, physically, and spiritually. It's time to do something for yourself, and go investigate the earth we're given.

Take that leap. Get out of your comfort zone. I promise you, that you won't regret it. You may learn something new. You may understand a group of people better than you did before. Who knows, it may even change your life. You don't have to leave forever. You can always come back. But, leave for a day, a week, a year, five years, or more. Just get out there and open your heart and mind to something new.

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
