You know the feeling when you love a TV show and desperately miss it when it ends? That is how I feel about The Night Of. The Night Of was a mini-series that just ended on HBO. It was produced by the late James Gandolfini and starred actors like John Turturro and Michael K. Williams. The show was based around a fictional court case of a pakistanian-american accused of murdering a wealthy girl from NYC. For those who have yet to see the show, I highly recommend it.
While season 1 was a huge success, is it a good idea to take the True Detectives route with the show? The show like many US shows was deriven from a brittish show. The British version had different cases per season. A layout similar to True Detectives. The problem with having that style of layout is that it is incredibly difficult to keep up with a standard. You may have a killer first season and end up ruining the show with a sequal. Another problem is coming up with storyline ideas. While I think that The Night Of should do another season, I find it unlikely unless they come up with another good storyline idea.
That being said, if done right, The Night Of could have the possibility of becoming one of HBO's top TV programs. As a mini-series, it was loved by many people. In my opinion it is the best HBO crime drama since The Sopranos. My biggest fear if they decide to make another season is that it will be reuined. Time will tell what will happen. Either way, I'm satisfied with The Night Of right now. I trust HBO knows how to handle their programming, because they have done an excellent job with it.
