I like to think of myself as a generally happy person. I'm rarely in a bad mood, and when I am, it doesn't take long for someone to make me laugh and for me to snap out of it. Now, this doesn't mean I don't get mad or sad sometimes. Of course, I do. Everyone does, and if you say you're never mad or sad you're probably lying to yourself.
I really don't let things get to me that easily and I'm typically a pretty positive person, at least I like to think so. Over the years, one huge lesson that I've learned is that you should always try to choose being positive. In all cases, being positive will always be the better option.
You're probably wondering where I'm going with this, but what I'm trying to get at is that you should always choose happiness. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying you need to be happy 100% of the time, because, well, that's just not that realistic. There are going to be things that get you down. Maybe it's a break up or a bad grade, or even a really sad episode of Grey's Anatomy that ruined the rest of your day (Grey's fans- don't act like this hasn't happened to you). But what I'm saying is, well, when you have the option to either have a negative attitude about something versus a positive one, why wouldn't you want to be positive? Doesn't that make the situation just a little bit better, that if nothing else, at least you have hope it can turn around? Why wouldn't you want to wake up in the morning with a positive attitude?
There's a really popular quote I heard for the first time probably around 5 years ago that says, "Everything will be okay in the end, if it's not okay, it's not the end." For some reason this quote has always stuck with me because above all other things, it's true. If you're not going to choose happiness, at least have faith that there can be a happy ending. Stay positive and choose happiness, because everything will eventually be okay.
