The days are getting hotter and the summer months are approaching, with this comes mowing the lawn, outside games and beach days. Now i'm here to remind you how important it is to wear sunscreen while doing these activities and being in the sun.
This past week I vacationed in Old Orchard Beach, Maine with my best friend. I stayed in a beautiful hotel right on the water and we spent all of our second day on the beach. The day consisted of tanning, bubbles and swimming which was great until about 2 hours after leaving the beach. You see usually when I go to Maine I go with my mom and she packs the sunscreen… I bet you can tell where this is going. I forgot sunscreen and decided it was okay to go without it for the day. My body transformed from Frosty the snowman into Larry the lobster real quick. By the end of the day my whole body was so red that my friend said “If you were a steak temperature you would be rare.” However I didn't feel rare i felt like I was well done. I was crispy, my skin was tight and I was in so much pain.
1. If you like to sleep
Sleeping is next to impossible when you have a sunburn all of your body. It is painful. It is uncomfortable. It is not fun. And then when you do finally fall asleep you wake up an hour later having to pee. And you have to start the falling asleep process all over again.
2. If you like to wear clothes
Tight clothes rubbing on your skin is the last thing you want. So unless you wanna lock yourself in your room for a couple days and stay in the nude, wear your sunscreen. Also, if you have a job and have to wear a tight fitting uniform it makes it so much harder to do your job when your skin hurts everywhere. And it’s kinda embarrassing to call out with the excuse of “I got a bad sunburn”
3. If you like to take showers
Showering is another painful process. Whether it's trying to wash your body with soap or trying to raise your arms to shampoo both are not easy tasks. Cold baths are the way to go with this one.
4. If you like to be outside
If you're sunburned then it's highly recommended that you stay out of the sun until it is healed. This means staying inside on a really nice day. And if you’re like me and love the outdoors then this is as much torture as the sunburn itself.
5. If you want healthy skin
UV radiation is the #1 cause of skin cancer. Sunscreen protects you from these harmful rays. So not only will it protect you from getting burnt to a crisp but it will also help prevent you from getting skin cancer.
I will say that 2 good things have come from this 1. I now have a high pain tolerance and 2. I will always wear sunscreen. I definitely did learn my lesson with this one. Do yourself a favor and learn from my mistakes. Wear sunscreen. Get some spray stuff so it's easy to put on and just do it because it's not worth the consequences.
