For most high school students in America, 2nd semester senior year high school grades tend to be the ones they care about the least. There are only 4 months of school left and seniors tend to do work at the last second with minimum effort because they realize colleges have already made their decisions. In fact, the only thing motivating most students is to make they do not do bad enough in school that their admissions get revoked or rescinded by the school they plan on going to in the fall. I absolutely love it because life has been more fun but I have also been thinking about whether there should be more of an importance held regarding the 2nd-semester senior year grades.
I know you probably think I am crazy to even insist another semester of work to be cared about more but something I have realized about myself and a lot of my other peers at the current time as got me thinking. A lot of my friends are no longer displaying the strong work ethic and dedication for school work and tests thatchy had showcased in the other 7 semesters of high school. What used to be studying every day for a little bit and finishing homework on time has magically changed to nights of cramming and finishing the last few question of homework as the teacher is collecting the homework. Is this really the mentality that a prospective college student wants to enter into college with? This 2nd semester of senior year serves as the bridge between two very very different chapters of our lives. The College life is much different than how high school was and as much as we high school seniors have heard that, we will not truly understand it until we have walked on the college campus for a few weeks. Is it really ideal to go into college where your future is greatly on the line, with the mentality of procrastination and just doing enough to pass linger greatly in our minds and memory from the final few months in high school? Most definitely not, which is why I believe somehow the 2nd semester of senior year should be taken more seriously and not just seen as a period of time to just not try and relax. It is not as easy as it seems to just click back into the groove of hard work.
As a current senior in high school only days away from graduation, I first handed know how big of a phenomenon "senioritis" is and how it affects nearly every student. Although I greatly enjoy the lack of stress and work load, I see myself worried about how much more difficult it will be adjusting to college rigor. Academic wise, college is a new breed of animal and it is best to go into the cage with a strong work ethic that you are used to performing with rather than trying to adjust after a semester of lack of trying and laziness.
