Short Girl Struggles

I am vetically challenged, I am well aware. Thank you for pointing that out.

Short Girl Struggles

Being a shorter girl, there are certain struggles that I am sure other short girls have been through too. I have always been not only been picked on for being blonde, but my height too. Here are some struggles that I’m sure all of us understand.

1. Getting Picked Up

We as short girls have experienced the problem of being picked up and thrown around by those who we do not enjoy. This is one thing that annoys us to high heavens. I mean, how would you feel if someone kept picking you up like a sack of potatoes?

2. Not Being Able to Reach the Top Shelf (and having to ask someone for help)

See those chips that are there on the top shelf? You might want to start climbing on the counter or grab a stepstool. That, or try to find someone tall enough that can reach them for you without laughing at you struggling too hard.

3. Not Finding Pants That Fit… Anywhere!

The day that I find pants that I do not have to roll up is the day that I will truly be happy. 98% of my pants have to be rolled up because I either look homeless or like I shrunk. Even finding pants that fit my equestrian thighs and child hips is hard. The amount of times I have fit into children’s clothing is sad (although affordable).

4. Being Used as an Armrest

We all know those people who come up and rest their arm onto your head. It is super annoying, I am not your furniture no matter how short I am.

5. Looking Like You Are 12, and Being Asked If You Are

If I earned a dollar every time someone asked how old I was, I could probably afford to pay for my college expenses. There was once an elderly lady that was blown away at the fact that I was a college student. Yes, I have a driver's license and yes, I can pay for my own items. After all, I am an adult (scary I know).

6. Walking Fast to Keep Up with Everyone Else

Keeping up with your friends is just plain difficult. Sorry long-legged Larry my short but toned legs cannot possibly keep up with your long strides.

    7. Not Touching the Floor When You Sit

Chair, toilet, car, you name it. If you sit, you cannot reach. Luckily, my car has adjustable seats so I can actually reach the pedals.

Even though we are short, I believe that we have quite a good life. We can crawl into smaller places, shop for children’s clothes for the cheaper prices, and when everyone else is 30, we will still have to be carded.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
