A Short List Of Advice From A Young Adult Making Their Way Through The World

I am young, and I do not know that much, but I’ve learned a little bit throughout my years. This list does the contain the answers to a smooth or easy life, nor does it provide the answers to a successful life, it simply is a small list of what I have found helpful to hear as I journey through my life.

1. You have time, use it.

Every day you have a new chance to change your ways for the better. You can dance more, laugh more, express your love more, live more. There is so much time that exists, and it is here for you to use to make the world a better place. Whether you are a young high school student or a retired adult, we are all given time, time to use and time to enjoy.

2. Don't be afraid to make a fool out of yourself, it will happen either way.

Whether you embrace your mistakes or not, you will make mistakes. Whether it is mistakes on your tests, mistakes within your friendships, or mistakes for yourself, you will make mistakes. And you will make a fool out of yourself, in fact, you should make a fool out of yourself. Don’t be invisible to the world, make yourself known for being goofy and for being unapologetically you.

3. Know that you are more powerful than you could ever imagine.

You simply are more powerful than you could ever imagine. It’s as simple as that. Others can often see so much more of yourself than what you could ever see, and that’s important to know. You will tell yourself that you are not good enough, smart enough, or talented enough, but you are. You simply are all of that.

4. Be the best friend you can be to yourself and to others.

Listen to others, both your friends and strangers. Be good friends to others, and help people out in any way you can. The world will respond to you in miraculous ways when you help it out. Also, be a friend to yourself. Forgive yourself, and have patience as you learn the multitude of happenings in life.

5.Create wild dreams, and believe in them.

Doubt is one our biggest enemies when it comes to chasing after our dreams. You have to know that you are amazing, and you are powerful and strong. You have to know this as you go into the unknown, and at any point in your life because it will give you the confidence and patience to know that you can achieve what you are going for. Also, be sure to dream big and dream crazy, you can make it happen.

6. Have faith that it will all work out.

By trusting that your life will work out as it should, a good portion of your worries will be taken away. You will see how much stress and worry you save yourself by simply not worrying or doubting the future. Go with it. Learn as you go, and you will be okay.

7. Accept that you do not know everything.

As I have to do often, remind yourself that you do not know everything. There is so much to learn in this world that one cannot expect you to learn it by the time you are 20, or 30, or even 80. In fact, you often will learn more if you admit that you need to learn and listen more.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
