"The Sun And Her Flowers", by Rupi Kaur, is one of the most thought provoking and touching books I have ever read. While it is a light read, the words are extremely powerful. Kaur digs deep into issues many people struggle with daily, but usually keep to themselves about.
There are five sections to the book; wilt, fall, root, rise, and bloom. While this book will definitely have you sobbing, it's absolutely inspiring how exposed and raw the story line is and what it can do for those who read it.
The story focuses on a woman who faces many challenges in life; heartbreak, depression, fear, and insecurity, alongside some of the touchier subjects, such as rape. This book is hard to put down, and hard to keep reading at the same time. It talks about things most people are uncomfortable talking about, but are things that need to be heard.
We live in a society where these terrible and draining things REALLY do occur for millions of people everyday. This book gives a look at what that's like, and helps give an understanding of things that may have been unfamiliar before. It is kind of like an "ah hah!" moment, when you realize you aren't the only one feeling a particular way, or you understand why others once did, or do.
That being said, if you're in need of a new read, I strongly recommend "The Sun And Her Flowers". Not only is this an easy one, but one that I can guarantee you will benefit from. You will shed a few tears and think about things you've never thought before.
